Machinery Maintenance Mechanic

Overview:

The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic repairs machinery or mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble, dismantling or partly dismantling machines, and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.

Responsibilities include replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock and ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.

Duties also include preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops, reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation. In general, the work of a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Install, repair, assemble, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic machinery and equipment. Perform range of repairs and installation of plumbing, air conditioning and heating fixtures, conveyers, and automated material handling systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Installs power supply wiring, conduit, harnesses and circuit breakers.
  • Connects industrial machines to power, water, steam or pneumatic sources as required.
  • Troubleshoots and identifies cause of equipment malfunction, order repair parts and supplies as needed.
  • Informs supervisor or designee of repairs covered under warranty or of defects in parts/workmanship in equipment.
  • Uses specifications, blueprints, schematics, photographs and technical manuals in performance of duties.
  • Loads material on and off of skids, pallets, and stands.
  • Prepares labels as required.
  • Prepares various reports relating to equipment/machinery.
  • Operates tools and equipment in performance of duties.
  • Operates MHE as needed in performance of duties and holds appropriate license.
  • Makes preventive maintenance adjustments to equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. (Experience may be substituted for education on a year-by-year basis).
  • Minimum one year of general experience.
  • Minimum of one year of specific experience, which will demonstrate knowledge required to perform requirements of position.
  • Must be able to obtain license to use Material Handling Equipment (MHE) within 30 days of selection.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access and E-mail business software. Must demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a Team.
  • Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision. Must be able to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects, and have a strong attention for detail.

Work Environment:

Works in shop/warehouse environment. Work involves repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time. Work is of a physical nature and requires the incumbent be able to lift 50 lbs overhead and/or repetitively. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is occasionally required.
