This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will support the development of best-in-class software applications that drive increased efficiency that supports program execution within the Blue Engines business unit. You will understand and identify improvements within our business and transform them into requirements for our team of developers to build solutions that improve our program execution. You will lead all aspects of the complete delivery of tools and coordinate all aspects of tool deployment.

As a software engineer, you will apply your expertise to the aerospace applications of engineering design, manufacturing, supply chain, mission operations, and customer experience.

Responsibilities:

Full-Stack Development (Primary Focus):

  • Develop and maintain full-stack web applications to support design engineering, manufacturing, and production for Blue Origin rocket engines
  • Build front-end features using TypeScript, React, and CSS frameworks (Tailwind, Material UI)
  • Create and maintain RESTful API's and RPC's using Node.js
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

Data Pipeline Development (Secondary Focus):

  • Ingest data from source systems using REST, GraphQL, and SQL
  • Build data transformation pipelines for batch and streaming processing
  • Work with relational databases and write efficient SQL queries
  • Implement data models based on technical specifications

Collaboration & Growth:

  • Work with senior engineers to design and implement features
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback
  • Own a system or ongoing project, driving design, delivery, and planning of improvements
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt and improvements
  • Interface with internal customers to understand requirements
  • Contribute to technical discussions and architecture decisions

Operations:

  • Support CI/CD pipelines and deployments (GitLab, Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Participate in on-call rotation with team support
  • Track work and update tasks in Jira
  • Attend daily standups and sprint planning meetings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years of professional software engineering experience including:
    • Building web applications with React & TypeScript (or similar modern frameworks)
    • Creating APIs with Node.js (or similar backend frameworks)
    • Working with relational databases and writing SQL queries
    • Deploying applications to cloud infrastructure
    • Using Git for version control and collaboration
    • Understanding of data structures & algorithms fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications:

Front-End:

  • Experience with Next.js or other React frameworks
  • Familiarity with component libraries (Material UI, Tailwind)

Backend & Data:

  • Experience building data pipelines or ETL processes
  • Exposure to streaming platforms (Kafka) or batch processing (Spark)
  • Working with NoSQL databases
  • Experience working with data warehouses and data lakes (Delta Lake or Iceberg)

Infrastructure & DevOps:

  • Deploying applications on AWS (EC2, RDS, ECS, EKS, S3, MSK, Glue)
  • Working with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines

Other:

  • Java and Spring Boot development
  • Manufacturing, operations, or aerospace domain knowledge

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
