Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Junior Investigator for the Office of Employment Equity. Reporting to the Associate Director of OEE, the Investigation and Resolution Specialist ensures investigations are thorough, impartial, and timely. This role includes preparing detailed investigative reports, managing employee relations issues during investigations, and implementing supportive measures throughout the investigative process.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Serves as a lead professional responsible for independently managing and conducting sensitive investigations into complaints of workplace violence and related HR policies, as well as less complex discrimination and harassment investigations.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to support prevention, education, and policy development.
  • Leads and conducts independent and unbiased investigations into allegations of workplace violence and related HR policies, as well as less complex discrimination/harassment investigations.
  • Independently manages multiple cases concurrently, ensuring timely yet thorough evidence gathering, witness interviews, and fact-based determinations.
  • Drafts detailed, objective investigation reports that include factual findings, credibility assessments, and policy-based determinations.
  • Conducts thorough analysis of complex, highly sensitive situations, applying strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate evidence and determine outcomes.
  • Communicates findings clearly and effectively through concise, logical, and well-organized written reports.
  • Exercises sound judgment and maintains strict confidentiality, professionalism, and sensitivity in all aspects of investigative work.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and produce high-quality, accurate work products with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Facilitates resolution of difficult or sensitive matters by assessing information, identifying key issues, and ensuring consistency with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assists in developing standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Develops and delivers training programs on workplace violence and related HR investigations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to the Rutgers community on workplace violence matters and investigation processes.
  • Conducts intakes with complainants and makes recommendations to the Director on policy applicability.
  • Supports and represents the University and OULR in grievance hearings and arbitrations, when needed.
  • Provides policy interpretations and compliance recommendations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience conducting workplace investigations.


Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to efficiently and independently manage a high-volume caseload.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills and the capacity to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations and interviews.
  • Must be able to analyze, interpret, and apply complex laws, rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to draw reasonable conclusions and to write and produce detailed investigation reports under established timelines; and to facilitate resolution of complaints.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and meet timeframes for completion of work.
  • Demonstrated high level of teamwork, initiative, dependability, versatility and flexibility.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent independent time and case management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and case management systems.
