POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

The Gardener Lead, under direction of the Project Manager, will provide support for the daily grounds' maintenance operations of the Transportation Safeguards Training Site at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Mow, weed-eat, transplant trees and shrubs, weed flower beds, edge landscaped areas, prune trees and bushes. Additional tasks will include receiving and evaluating work orders and requests, investigating requests or problems where appropriate, establishing priorities and assigning personnel to make necessary corrections. Kill or control weeds, insects that are considered troublesome or harmful to agricultural, industrial or domestic activities. This position will oversee and perform minor preventative maintenance and repair of equipment. Assign, inspect and monitor the work of subordinates. Keep the Project Manager informed of unique situations and problems encountered.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Able to perform a variety of tasks in a single day.
  • Perform minor and preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment.
  • Maintain grounds by removing litter and debris, blowing off sidewalks and pathways.
  • Landscape grounds by planting grass, raking and fertilizing required areas.
  • Maintain all grounds' maintenance equipment in a safe and efficient working order.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment.
  • Coordinates with trade personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts and requirements for a variety of requisitions.
  • Responsible for the placement of inventory stock, replacement item orders and inventory management control.
  • Originates necessary documents, forms, reports, etc.; and query various computer work systems to extract information concerning projects, materials, or services.
  • Ensures timely submission of required reports.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs, including, but not limited to; Word, Power Point, Excel, and Access or equivalent software programs.
  • Being timely and cost effective while performing all duties.
  • Adherence to contract requirements and ALMS policies
  • Adherence to all safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required.



Hourly Rate: $20.51

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to obtain a DOE/NNSA "L" level Clearance.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Valid state driver's license & an acceptable driving record (must provide current driver's record).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mature judgement & ability to work with little to no supervision.
  • Two to three years' experience in gardening/landscaping.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in the use of herbicide applications equipment.
  • Ability to identify pest and type of treatment required.
  • Will be subject to random drug testing program.


Preferred Qualifications or Skills:



  • Experience in groundskeeping and with the following equipment: zero-turn radius mowers, tractors, trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, air compressors.
  • Grounds/personnel management experience.
