POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Engineering Intern supports the Principal Engineer by assisting with data gathering, drafting, documentation, and basic design tasks under close supervision. This role provides hands-on exposure to engineering fundamentals and project workflows while contributing meaningful support to active projects.

Base hourly rate of $21/hour

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assists with basic site walks to record existing conditions, take measurements, and organize field notes and photos.
  • Supports Principal Engineers with preliminary calculations, by assisting with equipment research, load inputs, and comparing manufacturer specifications.
  • Updates drawings, diagrams, and schedules based on changes made by the Principal Engineer,
  • Assists with maintaining project files and documentation, and helps to prepare meeting notes or follow ups as directed.
  • Researches codes, standards, and product information, summarizing findings for engineering review or inclusion in design narratives and submittal materials.
  • Assists with assembling design packages, deliverables, permit documents, and responses to field questions by updating sketches or gathering background information.
  • Participates in training on engineering tools, safety requirements, and MEP processes, and follow safety protocols during any supervised site visits.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and encourages the safety of others, especially at job sites.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • This position operates primarily in an office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and printers.
  • Work duties may also necessitate visits to/walk throughs of local job sites, which means intermittent exposure to outside weather and conditions/hazards typically associated with a construction site.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • This is considered a light work position, which means possible exertion of up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


TRAVEL:



  • This position requires occasional travel to attend meetings and conduct inspections at job sites or customer facilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • College student pursuing a degree in Construction, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with diverse audiences.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills, with the willingness to learn business and industry-specific systems.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Previous construction, engineering, or related industry internship or co-op experience.
