The Department of Human Services is seeking motivated and energetic Equipment Operator Bs to join our transportation and grounds team at Clarks Summit State Hospital. In this vital role, you will operate a range of medium-weight, single-chassis vehicles and maintenance equipment both on and off hospital grounds, supporting critical hospital programs, services, and daily operations. In this position, you will operate facility equipment and light- to medium-duty vehicles (trucks, vans, buses) in compliance with safety regulations to support transportation, maintenance, construction, and seasonal snow and ice removal. Responsibilities include performing excavation, repair, and installation work for utilities, roads, sidewalks, and landscaping using tractors, backhoes, skid loaders, mowers, chainsaws, forklifts, and related equipment. You will restore sites to the original grade after construction, remove trees and stumps, and maintain facility grounds. Additionally, you will provide patient and group transportation, conduct preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, prepare and operate snow-removal operations, and instruct staff on equipment use. You will also effectively prioritize tasks and adapt to changing work demands to meet deadlines.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, rotating weekend and holiday schedule, with a 30-minute lunch. A 12-hour shift is required every 5th or 6th weekend. Your work schedule may change based on operational needs.
• Travel and overtime: As needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A; or
• Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
• Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:

• You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Condition of Employment:

• This position requires possession of a Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
