Candidates working at the intersection of emerging engineering technologies and Civil Engineering related fields and using systems thinking approaches, involving both qualitative and quantitative methods, are especially encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will complement the existing strengths of the CME department and enhance collaboration among our core research groups (Environmental, Structural, Construction, Transportation, Materials, Geotechnical, and others) that are highly active in cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in cross-disciplinary teams across UIC and leverage excellent existing departmental laboratory facilities. Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to Establish and maintain a strong, externally funded research program Conduct interdisciplinary research and secure funding from industry partners, federal, state, and local agencies, national laboratories (e.g., Argonne), and other institutions Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses Advise and mentor students Provide service to the university, profession, and broader community Publish in high-quality technical journals.
