Senior Principal Product Leader for In Vivo Workflows

Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
Dec 24, 2025
The Position

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Roche.

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche's Research and Early Development organizations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximizing these opportunities. The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CS CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

The Data and Digital Catalysts (DDC) department within the CS CoE is a diverse, curious and action-driven team at the intersection of computation, engineering and science with ambition to advance our technical excellence. The focus of the team is on partnering with the informatics and scientific communities to create a computational and data ecosystem that powers scientific discovery and accelerates decision making. We aim to modernize our ability to acquire, store, link, share, find and analyze data across the organization through scalable and integrated solutions that truly make every data point count. Reporting to the Domain Head for Lab Workflows & Data, this Senior Product Leader will play a key role in defining and executing the strategy for a family of products that are critical for drug discovery research.

The Lab Workflows & Data domain provides the end-to-end digital backbone for research design, experiment management & execution, assay data & insights, and AI/ML solutions. It spans hypothesis and study design (protocol authoring, approvals, ELN linkage), experiment orchestration (intake, scheduling, LIMS/LES execution), and the full sample and material lifecycle with automation, provenance, and chain-of-custody. The domain also delivers assay data & insights capabilities-standardized data ingestion, secondary and tertiary processing pipelines, QC, lineage, harmonization, and analytics-ready datasets-underpinned by governed research master data, shared ontologies, and interoperable APIs.

As the Senior Principal Product Leader for In Vivo Workflows, you will partner with senior scientific leadership across In Vivo research to deliver a coherent, end-to-end product experience spanning across various study designs. Your mandate is to translate scientific strategy into an actionable, outcomes-driven product roadmap that connects study design entity selection and registration protocol execution observations and sample collection data acquisition and processing insights, reducing friction at every hand-off and delivering an integrated experience with scientific productivity and reproducibility at the core. You will work closely with technical capability leaders and adjacent product leaders to influence functional and platform roadmaps in support of this strategy. Integrated end-to-end In Vivo Solutions matter because they transform a fragmented research toolchain into a coherent operating system-linking study design, entity registration, protocol execution, data capture, and insights. By standardizing identifiers, metadata, and provenance at each step, these solutions reduce rework, improve first-time-right execution, and ensure results are reproducible and reusable across studies, modalities, and therapeutic areas.

You will partner deeply with in vivo scientists, study directors, lab managers, animal operations, and automation specialists to understand experimental hypotheses, regulatory and ethical constraints, and throughput needs. In parallel, you will collaborate with product managers, engineering, data, and UX teams to design workflows that genuinely "start with the science" and scale across the organization.

This is an exciting opportunity to significantly impact and accelerate the discovery of diverse therapeutics that fundamentally improve patients' lives. You will work closely with Genentech's top-tier scientists, drug discovery experts and AI/ML experts.

Key Accountabilities
  • Define the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for integrated In Vivo workflow products, aligned with research priorities and portfolio needs.

  • Manage a portfolio of products and solutions supporting In Vivo Research

  • Deliver end-to-end, research-centric workflows that connect study design, protocol execution, animal cohorts, dosing and observations, sample and material lifecycles, assay outputs, and insights, with clear provenance, access controls, and auditability.

  • Drive platform interoperability using API-first, ontology-aligned patterns; ensure seamless integration with ELN, LIMS, lab automation, instrumentation, and data platforms, and consistent use of GUPRIs and governed master data.

  • Translate scientific needs into product outcomes through continuous discovery with PIs, study directors, scientists, assay owners, and operations; convert validated use cases into prioritized epics with explicit success criteria.

  • Sequence high-value deliveries from pilots to scaled adoption, balancing foundational platform capabilities with near-term scientific value; manage dependencies across adjacent product families and shared services.

  • Lead change and adoption by establishing communication plans, training curricula, super-user networks, and continuous feedback loops.

  • Orchestrate cross-functional delivery across product, engineering, data/AI, UX, QA/CSV, security, privacy, and vendors; remove blockers, manage risks, and maintain a durable delivery cadence.

  • Develop talent and culture by mentoring product managers & software engineers, fostering scientific empathy, and promoting usability, experimentation, and continuous improvement across the domain.

Who You Are

In hiring new employees, we look for people inspired by our mission who thrive in a collaborative, rigorous, and entrepreneurial culture. Our people are essential to bringing novel medicines to patients, and we are committed to being an extraordinary place to work.

The ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • 10+ years of product leadership in life sciences R&D (biotech, pharma, CRO, or research technology), with end-to-end ownership of complex products serving scientists and research operations.

  • Deep literacy in in vivo and translational research workflows-from hypothesis and study design through protocol execution, observations, sampling, and downstream data analysis.

  • Strong understanding of lab informatics foundations, including ELN/LIMS, automation, sample and material tracking, and how registries and master data (e.g., entity identifiers, controlled vocabularies) enable reproducibility.

  • Systems and data acumen across API-first and event-driven integration patterns, data modeling and ontologies, lineage and provenance, access-control models (project- and study-based), and security and privacy-by-design.

  • Demonstrated delivery of measurable outcomes (e.g., cycle-time reduction, first-time-right execution, reuse of entities and datasets, improved request-to-start SLAs), supported by telemetry and evidence-based iteration.

  • Proven stakeholder leadership across PIs, study directors, lab managers, assay owners, data and AI teams, engineering, and executive sponsors; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience leading migrations from legacy tools, including data cleansing, schema mapping, cutover strategies, coexistence, and decommissioning with minimal disruption to active studies.

  • Comfort operating in a global, matrixed organization with strong change management, roadmap sequencing, and risk management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a life science discipline and/or software engineering/research informatics (PhD, MS)

  • Extensive experience in software product management in Pharmaceutical/Biotech/Life Sciences domain; priori expertise in in vivo research highly preferred

  • Experience with master data management, FAIR data practices, and governance operating models (data stewardship, metadata quality, change control).

  • Familiarity with lab automation and instrument integration across relevant assay families (e.g., bioanalytical, PK/PD, flow cytometry, imaging, sequencing/omics).

  • Exposure to AI/ML enablement in research (harmonized identifiers, curated training datasets, model reproducibility) and to ethical, privacy, consent, and IP constraints in preclinical and human-sourced data.
