Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Medical Assistant Manager in Norfolk, VA and will support our nine sites.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessing skill and performance level of all Medical Assistants within sites of responsibility
  • Performs yearly evaluations of all Medical Assistants. Responsible for hiring, promotion, disciplinary actions and termination process of Medical Assistants. Receives assistance and approval from Human Resources as needed.
  • Coordinates continuing education and training for all Medical Assistant staff. Responsible for reviewing and approval of Medical Assistant staff timecards at multiple sites of service.
  • Processes Cancer Data Management forms from various cancer registries. Adheres to all OSHA
  • Universal Precautions procedures. Properly disposes of hazardous materials. Performs EKG's and
  • Documents EKG, oximetry, and medication administration in patient's chart.
  • Performs Medical Assistant functions as needed to ensure adequate department staffing and quality care.
  • Responsible for coordination and conducting of Medical Assistant meetings at all sites of service. Performs annual Safety Training.
  • Communicates operational policy changes to employees and ensure implementation.
  • Attends and participates in company meetings to include taking minutes and acting as liaison for relaying information to Medical Assistant staff.
  • Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and comply with all applicable privacy regulations to include the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act (HIPPA). Maintains confidentially of all information related to medical staff, finances, and cost-effective health care delivery issues.
  • Directly manages Medical Assistants at multiple sites and other non-licensed patient care providers as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants required.
  • Minimum of seven years' experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Must be willing to travel to sites in our region, as needed.
