A Brief Overview

This Polysomnography Tech resident position is 36 hours a week- 3 12 hour shifts 6p-6:30a, every third weekend and some holidays.
The Polysomnography Technician -Resident is a novice level practitioner of polysomnography. The PT -Resident develops competency in and performs the basic skills of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under direct leadership of a Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist who is a Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS).

What you will do

  • Practice: Performs delegated tasks for select number of patients and families.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments, if necessary, including applying electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards, and performing appropriate physiologic calibrations (when age and cognitive function appropriate) ensuring proper signals and making adjustments, if necessary.
  • Follows procedural protocols (such as PAP titration, oxygen titration, research protocols etc.) ensuring collection of appropriate data while providing all applicable documentation required for appropriate physician interpretation of the Polysomnogram.
  • Cleans and sterilizes all equipment after each sleep study as per infection control procedures.
  • Professionalism/Leadership: Demonstrates acceptance of personal/professional accountability and responsibility.
  • Research: Demonstrates an awareness of research and its value to clinical practice.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of research and/or quality improvement activities.
  • Learning Orientation: Assumes responsibility for professional development.
  • Examines successes and failures to improve performance.
  • Maintains a blame free environment.
  • Completes ten Continuing Education Credits (10) as approved by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) per calendar year.
  • Participates in continuing educational opportunities at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and as otherwise assigned by management.
  • Resource Management: Begins to understand appropriate utilization of financial resources.
  • Keeps inventory of all stock supplies for the sleep lab.
  • Orders all supplies as needed for purchase

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Associate's Degree Active enrollment in Polysomnography, Neurodiagnostics or Respiratory Therapy program Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least six (6) months direct patient care experience Required or
  • At least one (1) year post-secondary education in a healthcare related field. Required
  • Completion of a CAAHEP accredited program in polysomnography Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
