What to Expect The Failure Analysis Team's mission is todetermineroot cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla's products in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers on the teamare responsible fora wide variety of Vehicle and Energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. The discrete devices failure analysis engineer willbe responsible fordriving end to end root cause analysis of semiconductor componentsutilizedin Tesla products. The discrete devices failure analysis engineer will also be expected to clearly convey investigation results to stakeholders andassistin driving corrective action when necessary. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role that requires extensive hands-on failure analysis of electrical components. We areseekingan enthusiastic, fast-learning individual who will work closely with experienced Engineers on analyzing, root causing, and reporting on electroniccomponentissues. What You'll Do Utilize analytical tools and techniques to support failure analysis investigations on low and high voltage electronic components at package and die level Perform functional testing and board level debug to reproduce symptoms, isolate failing components, and confirm electrical failure modes Perform fault isolation on discrete devices, low voltage controllers, and high voltage semiconductor power devices Perform sample preparation techniques tofacilitate componentfault isolation including mechanical cross section, parallel lapping, chemical decapsulation, chemical etching and plasma etching Collaborate with engineers from Design, Quality, Manufacturing Test, and Supplier Industrialization teams to support containment and to propose corrective actions for defects found in failure analysis Produce written reports that clearly convey results of failure with guidance Create design of experiments to test hypotheses and gain knowledge on recreating failure What You'll Bring Bachelor of Science Degree in Material Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience 5+ years hands on experience in discrete device and semiconductor failure analysis Proficient operator of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM, Dual Beam SEM/FIB Preferred) and other electrical/material analysis techniques Proficient in semiconductor fault isolation techniques such as Optical Beam Induced Resistance Change, Photon Emission Microscopy, and Lock in Thermography Proficient in sample preparation techniques such as cross sectioning, chemical decapsulation, and IC delayering Proficient at reading schematics, datasheets, and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits Deep understanding of semiconductor fabrication, theory, and usage is preferred Hands-on experience with electrical testing tools like DMM, Power Supplies, and Oscilloscopes Strong written and verbal communication skillsrequired(English) Demonstrated interpersonal skills through team projects or leadership roles Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $128,000 - $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
