The Environmental Safety & Health Manager assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining job site safety programs. Acts as an in-house adviser for environmental, health and safety concerns pertaining to company and project operations and assures compliance with all federal, state, local and company regulations. The Health and Safety Manager will ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws. You will also be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace and safe practices.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring the safety and training
  • Inspect job sites to ensure safe work environments
  • Create and Conduct Toolbox Talks
  • Schedule and Lead Safety Committee meetings
  • Complete injury and accident reports with subsequent investigation
  • Update and maintain company Safety Manual/Policies
  • Keep up to date on all OSHA and DOT safety requirements
  • Certified OSHA 10 and 30
  • Familiar with OSHA compliance for construction industry
  • Share safety audits and trends with upper management for review
  • Attend monthly safety meetings for owners and general contractors when required
  • Plan all off-season safety training
  • Organizing Annual Safety Meeting
  • Order and Maintain Safety Gear and Supplies
  • Maintain tool and equipment logs
  • New hire safety orientation and training
  • Build working relationships with project staff and Subcontractor Safety Representatives.
  • Contributes to the development of the overall project safety program.
  • Enforce Safety Program and related policies and procedures and implement immediate corrective actions in accordance with Turner, Federal, State and Local regulations and owner requirements.
  • Hold pre-construction planning meeting with subcontractors to review overall site safety program and job hazard analysis for their scope of work, and ensure plans are in place to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure proper pre-planning for all activities and tasks for subcontractors and trades.
  • Manage time and resource allocation appropriately to provide overall safety leadership to assigned project(s).
  • Create safety reports for the project, analyzing metrics and making recommendations for improvement over baseline.
  • If applicable, supervise and provide guidance for the development of Project Safety Assistant, communicating clear objectives, goals and related deliverables and holding direct reports accountable.
  • Evaluate training needs and make recommendations to subcontractors.
  • Actively participate in reducing Project Incident Rates by meeting or exceeding established goals and manage regulatory exposures to zero citations
  • Coordinate closely with all staff and subcontractors to ensure industry HSE standards are implemented and observed.
  • Develops and conducts formal training programs covering a variety of areas
  • Responds to employee safety concerns, by examining safety issues, preparing corrective actions and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Serves as a resource for departments in developing safe working habits and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Conducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections
  • Promote a positive safety culture at all levels of the organization, with heavy focus on employee engagement.
  • Developing strategies, initiatives, budget and change management plans for compliance with all environmental health and safety laws, regulations and consensus standards, safety engineering and safety training. Drive results.
  • Provide strategic planning and direction for achieving and maintaining outstanding safety and a work environment.
  • Identify, develop and deliver first rate safety education in areas such as safety laws & regulations, hazardous conditions, use of tools and equipment, PPE, OSHA required training, and best practices within & outside industry.
  • Maintain all employee safety training records.
  • Investigate recordable and near miss incidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine root causes and preventative measures. Facilitate accident review-board meetings
  • Lead Safety committee meetings and address recommendations with a sense of urgency.
  • Inspect facilities, tooling, machinery and safety equipment on routine basis to identify / correct potential hazards & ensure safety regulation compliance and employee safe keeping.


SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, risk management, safety engineering or related field preferably. A minimum of 5+ years of construction / heavy industrial safety leadership experience.
  • Ability to pass extensive background checks for badging purposes; to include NASA, DOT, JLA, CCAFS, PAFB, and FASA BASA
  • Experience in a construction environment is preferred
  • OSHA 500 certification preferred
  • Education/training in Occupational Safety & Health
  • CPR, First Aid, AED Trainer certified preferred
  • Superior written, verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office/Excel applications
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
