The Life Protection technician is responsible for the set-up, operation, prevention, and troubleshooting of issues and housekeeping of equipment as assigned.

The operation of Life Production equipment is expected to be done in accordance with standard operating procedures and recipe work instructions.

The technician is also responsible for:

  • Taking and measuring in-process samples and monitoring product quality of intermediate and finished products.
  • Maintaining required records of raw and intermediate materials, and finished products.
  • Moving, maintaining inventory, and storing required materials for equipment as needed.
  • Assisting in training, guidance, and support of other team members.

Essential Functions

  • Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to Avient requirements, rules, and procedures.
  • Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, JSAs and SOPs.
  • Address and report person(s) behaving in a SHE and Security irresponsible manner and document observed risks.
  • Abides by an enforced Avient procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreement; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, camera, computers or Avient property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient property and keys.
  • Campion sustainability by promoting a "reduce/reuse/recycle" philosophy within their team.
  • Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP's, and other related documentation and activities. Ensures company guidelines related to company policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping, and cost effectiveness are met.
  • Set up, operate, adjust and clean all equipment required for production accordance to work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining goals of the business.
  • Support and drive productivity to meet plant and corporate intitiaties, as outlines in the manufacturing plan.
  • Take samples to test and determines properties of the produced products. Prepares samples for offline quality checks. Perform off-line tests. Supply and maintain inventory of components/supplies as needed.
  • Correct process conditions with given limits, to maintain desired results. Request and/or issue maintenance tickets for maintenance repair work. Performs intermediate mechanical repair and/or preventative maintenance work when needed or as assigned.
  • Performs in-process quality checks as required. Demonstrates a commitment to quality by ensuring all test and product information/documentation is accurate, completed in a timely manner and filed per area requirements.
  • Maintain records of the used raw materials and the produced products in the appropriate computer system. Enters data about components, intermediate and finished products is entered in the appropriate tracking system.
  • Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate, and finished products. Receives stores, handles and delivers raw materials and finished products as required or directed. Utilize standard material handling equipment. Operate rider and/or walk for truck and overhead crane as per licensing and training requirements.
  • Utilize good judgement in making critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety and other related activities.
  • Identifies problems related to equipment, work orders, log books, set-ups and other related activities and recommends ways to solve. Makes suggestions regarding product quality, safety precautions, and work improvements Inform appropriate personnel of any problems that may impair the quality of the Film product, packaging components, work efficiency and/or safety.
  • Actively contribute to Lean, 5S, and Continuous Improvements efforts within the production area.
  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste specified by the site non-hazardous and hazardous waste procedures and regualtiosn. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Authorities

Authorized to approve work permits per details included in the Site Work Permit Procedure. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste

Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Demonstrates and meets qualifications on all Blending or Extrusion operational areas.
  • Demonstrates leadership and team work in all phases of the operation.
  • Sets up and starts all machines, checking all controls for adherence to mixing/blending or extruding procedures.
  • Weighs ingredient to meet recipe specification and inserts into machinery; or ensures the correct ingredients are delivered to the work area and inserts pre-blended materials into machinery.
  • Monitors production and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Troubleshoots equipment and processing issues.
  • Operates machinery to mix or extrude the ingredients according to operating procedures.
  • Examines materials visually or with hands in order to ensure conformance to established standards.
  • May take samples to quality control for testing. Follows lab instruction as to adding raw materials to the batch to bring it into specifications. Labels finished product.
  • Refers issues/problems to lead/supervisor for disposition.
  • Performs all required machine cleaning.
  • Completes and maintains all required SAP transactions. Demonstrates expertise in the use of SAP.
  • Documents work completed. Accurately completes and updates required paperwork such as production logs, data reports, procedures, etc.
  • Participates in training new employees and re-training present departmental employees in processes and methods as required.
  • Completes all necessary documentation at the end of shift.
  • Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follows applicable ISO, EH&S rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Physical/Environ. Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear. Occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally handle up to 250 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with the exception of high noise areas. Proper personal safety equipment needs to be used while performing this job and that equipment

is dictated by the plant safety guidelines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents and outside weather conditions. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (Required) with at least 3-5 years of experience working in manufacturing, production, or equivalent military technical experiences/training.
  • Working knowledge and/or routine use of and experiences with business processes and platforms such as:
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Manufacturing operations systems
  • Equipment digital interfaces
  • Safety, Health and Environmental requirements and practices
  • Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and understanding of machine controls and instrumentation.
  • Ability to follow appropriate SHE procedures.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and applicable work instructions.
  • Taking responsibility and being accountable for personal behaviors and performance (self, equipment and product).
  • Analytical skills to be able to spot issues/deficiencies of varying complexity within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate and timely action to rectify.
  • Mechanical competency and knowledge including equipment assembly.
  • Ability to make informed and data-driven decisions quickly, at times under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation via hand-written forms and electronic database systems.
  • Effective communication skills to receive information related to site and area goals, expectations and other pertinent information and translate to action in daily activities.
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and follow up on activities based on area expectations and needs.
  • Ability to contribute to, support, and drive change management in the area.
  • Capability to have interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to effectively communicate with teammates and other area support groups.

  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
