This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List for the following locations: Weymouth (La Verne, CA) and Gene Camp (Parker Dam, CA). This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position.

There are currently only two (2) openings located at the Weymouth Treatment Facility (La Verne, CA).

We are looking for an Operations and Maintenance Technician II - Machinist who is looking to learn and support the operational core of water and power reliability. In this role, you will apply your skills to precisely machine a wide range of metals, alloy, and other materials into parts, equipment components, machinery and specialized tools. To be successful in this role, you will have strong attention to detail, a collaborative work ethic, and the ability to creatively solve machining related challenges.

What You'll Do

    You'll be working in one of Metropolitan's machine shops, using your mechanical skills and expertise to fabricate, repair, and restore components that keep critical systems operating reliably across multiple facilities.
  • The work will consist of using a full range of machine shop tools and equipment from precision measuring instruments to heavy-duty machinery, supporting planned maintenance, urgent repairs, and custom fabrication projects.
  • Perform detailed inspections and preventative maintenance to extend equipment life and prevent downtime.

  • Someone who is a problem-solver by nature; diagnosing issues, thinking through solutions and fixing parts the right way.
  • You have demonstrated mechanical and machining experience and have experience bringing equipment back to life and working with a wide range of machine shop tools and equipment.

Weymouth Work Schedule: 4/10, Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm

Gene Camp Work Schedule: 4/10, Rotating Monday through Thursday/Tuesday through Friday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm

The Incentive Pay Program will be setup to provide a Desert Branch Assignment Premium to qualifying employees as follows:
5% for all employees assigned to Gene Camp or Intake.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency in addition to a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a large industrial machine shop using CNC and/or manual machines; OR

High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and attainment of skills through a recognized machinist trade training program and/or applicable related experience within an industrial environment.

Experience and knowledge as demonstrated by practical application of general techniques and practices specific to the inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of machining equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
* Valid Drivers license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class C Certification (required at the time of application)
* Forklift Certification
* Manlift Certification

Expectations of Hours of Service: Employees in this position may be required to work off-shift hours to address operational needs and emergencies as required. May be required to work extended periods away from the normal reporting location.
