Job Description

Job Profile Summary

Directs daily operations of Sterile Processing with 24-hour responsibility at both campuses. Provides leadership and works collaboratively with Perioperative leaders, Medical Directors, program managers, management, nursing and clinical staff to guide technical and operational direction, planning and coordination of services throughout the El Camino Health System. Responsible for project planning and development; equipment and facilitates planning, staff development and training; budget preparation; regulatory compliance; contract negotiations for equipment, maintenance and supplies; productivity and performance improvement.

The Director will provide leadership, technical support, and ensure regulatory compliance within Sterile Processing and lead operations. The Director collaborates with physicians, staff and other directors and managers daily to ensure safe patient care and patient access to clinical services. This position is part of the Perioperative Leadership Team.

The Director assists with budget and equipment planning as well as coordinating the maintenance of all Sterile Processing equipment utilized within the Departments enterprise wide. The Director will provide 24-hour support to the departments, enterprise-wide and will be required to travel between sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, revises and implements policies and procedures with approval from the Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Director, Infection Control and others in accordance with established hospital policy and in compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards.

  • Analyzes, evaluates and takes appropriate actions to resolve system problems in the department.

  • Acts as administrative representative in various hospital and departmental committees

  • Participates in long-term planning of operations and management activities in alignment with the Chief Nursing Officer and with the Perioperative Services management team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, science or healthcare administration or related field required.

  • At least five years of senior level management in a sterile processing department at an acute care hospital or hospital system; experience implementing current best practice; knowledge of decontamination, and sterilization sciences case cart systems: including care of state-of-the-art equipment, e.g., robotics and minimally invasive instrumentation.

  • Operating room or procedural area experience, required.

  • In-depth knowledge of the following standards: AAMI, AORN, FDA, TJC, OSHA.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Office software Critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Experience working in a Labor/Management Partnership environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and instrumentation.

  • Experience leading teams through change management and process improvements.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills including basic principles of finance and statistics.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Current Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, (Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), or Healthcare Sterile Processing Certification (or obtain within 12 months of employment).

  • Current Certification International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) in Healthcare Leadership from Healthcare Sterile Processing (or obtain within 12 months of employment).

Generally does not require contact, but may communicate with patients of all age categories

Salary Range:

$99.76 - $149.64 USD Hourly
