GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general direction, coordinates and plans the movement of patients, medications, specimens, and equipment in an efficient and timely manner. Documents department productivity and resolves issues that arise.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Coordinates activities and work schedules of Transporters by receiving instructions, reviewing workloads, assigning duties, and arranging for breaks and lunches. Monitors workloads and assigns duties to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services. Ensures STAT deliveries are assigned on a priority basis. Prepares department schedules to facilitate adequate coverage for required patient movement.

* Maintains records/log related to the receipt and completion of transportation requests. Generates productivity reports based on records.

* Continuously monitors and evaluates delivery of services, makes recommendations for improvements, and implements new procedures, schedules, and the like in order enhance efficient work flow and delivery of services.

* Ensures maintenance of transportation equipment reporting damage to appropriate department for repairs.

* Responds to inquiries answering questions related to patient transportation services.

* Actively participates in training of new department associates.

* Completes and signs associate timecards.

* Monitors performance of transporters and provides input regarding performance to director.

* Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to read and write in order to complete various routine forms and communication skills necessary in order to communicate detailed instructions or procedures related to patient transportation at a level normally acquired through completion of high school. Approximately one-year previous hospital work experience in order to become familiar with the operations of a hospital.
  • Certification or successful completion of basic CPR certification during orientation period. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Analytical ability necessary to schedule workflows and successfully resolve issues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and transport patients from one location to another up to twenty percent of work time using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques as learned during orientation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Generally (up to 80 percent of work time) sedentary work performed at desk. Potential for physical injury such as muscle/back strain from same.
