Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Instrument Technician, supporting TOS II, at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA (NFAC). The Instrumentation Technician will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for [e.g. operating and maintaining or supporting] the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will perform the role of Instrumentation Technician supporting wind tunnel testing at the National Full-Scale Aerodynamic Complex (NFAC). This position requires a high level of technical competence. The candidate must have the ability to install and maintain instrumentation used in wind tunnel testing, including pressure, temperature, force, angle, motion measurements.



Responsibilities

Job Duties

    Provide technical support on customer developed wind tunnel test articles
  • Ability to perform electronic assembly including soldering, composition of prototype circuits, building cables using Mil-Spec and other instrument connections
  • Ability to read and understand wiring schematics and have knowledge of control systems and relay logic circuits
  • Interface with NFAC Instrumentation Engineers to establish and understand requirements for test instrumentation, configuration design, setup and documentation
  • Interface with test customers to establish test specific instrumentation requirements
  • Install instrumentation cables as required to transmit signals from the test article to the data system
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain test article instrumentation systems
  • Support instrumentation system build-up and check-out activities
  • Perform maintenance, calibrations, upgrades, and documentation of facility instrumentation systems as required
  • Work closely with lead persons with workflow, tool needs, equipment needs, training requirements, and safety to assure proper work direction and schedule requirements
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing
  • Provide operations support during facility testing activities
  • Support proper documentation of maintained inventories, procedures, and adherence to safe work processes of and on instrumentation systems
  • Ability to follow safe maintenance procedures is a must
  • Ability to communicate with other members of the work force the status and control of instrumentation systems
  • Requires availability to occasionally work off shifts (swing/grave)
  • Work in a cross functional team environment
  • Communicate oral and written instructions effectively, check for understanding
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace
  • Bring safety concerns to Supervisor
  • Provide feedback to Lead and Supervisor for crew needs such as tools, training, certification, etc.
  • Perform detailed job safety analysis including identifying potential hazards and developing safe plans of action to mitigate or eliminate the hazards
  • Attend craft safety and job qualification training
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma plus trade school or related experience
  • Four years' experience in technical instrumentation
  • Equivalent experience in advances electronics or other fields pertinent to the position may be submitted
  • Prior experience (1 - 4 years) in a test environment with instrumentation/data acquisition systems is desired
  • Ability to use test equipment e.g. (oscilloscopes, strip chart recorders, multimeters)
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Military Aviation Electronics experience is a plus
  • Valid California driver's license required to maintain job
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, co-workers, and management
  • Requires work in confined spaces and elevated platforms (must be trained/certified for such work)
  • Must adhere to appropriate safety, quality, and environmental practices, as well as business ethics practices
  • Ability to pass a physical exam
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the local area network.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
  • Current U.S. Citizenship required
