The Data and AI team in Microsoft's Developer Division is working on the future of AI for Developers!We are adiverse,entrepreneurialand multi-disciplinarygroup ofscientists,researchersand engineerswithpassion forusing AIto improve the productivityofmillions of developers around the world.We havereleasedAIfor codeadvancements inGithubCopilot, VS Code, VisualStudioandother Microsoft Copilots.

We areseekinganentrepreneurialandcreativeApplied Researcher 2 - CoreAIto leadgroundbreakingresearchprojects, takingthese from research into product.Youwillcollaborate with scientists,engineers anddesignersacross MicrosoftResearch, Microsoft productteamsandGithub.You will have an opportunity tobuildand trainstate-of-the-artmodels, and opportunities to both apply and advanceexistingapproachesofusing LLMs for software engineering, from using RAGto evaluation.Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to work closely with several developer product teams to run experiments, evaluate,iterateand improveyour AI projects on a large scale.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3+ year(s) related research experience OR equivalent experience
• 3+ years of research/industrial experience with LLM
• Industrial/research experience with CodeLLM, Code agent orAI IDE
• Experienceparticipatingin a top conference in relevant research domain

Research Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
