he Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking an experienced MW Class IV-A Electrician to work in our Maintenance Department in the Western Division on the Ohio Turnpike. Work Location:
While this position will work throughout the Western Division (Erie County to Williams County on the Ohio Turnpike), this position will be able to start and end their day at either the Castalia Maintenance Building in Castalia, OH (Erie County, Milepost 106.4), the Elmore Maintenance Building in Elmore, OH (Sandusky County, Milepost 79.7), the Swanton Maintenance Building in Swanton, OH (Fulton County, Milepost 48.3), or the Kunkle Maintenance Building in Pioneer, OH (Williams County, Milepost 16)

Examples of Duties

Job Duties:

  • Assigned duties relevant to skilled electrical work as required for the operations of the respective maintenance Division, which will include maintenance buildings, toll plazas, service plazas and all other Commission maintained electrical installations.
  • Provides for the necessary maintenance and repair of building electrical systems, equipment, controls, fans, pump and other motors, compressors, generators, alarm and communication systems; water and wastewater systems, associated components and equipment; roadway and building lighting systems, underground electrical service, heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, HVAC controls; submersible pumps and fuel distribution systems.
  • Installation of new and maintenance/repair of existing electrical systems including industrial/commercial type systems.
  • Performs electrical installations and work with voltage up to 480 volts, including single and three phase.
  • Additionally, performs assignments that may include service and repair of electrical equipment and power tools, performs minor repairs or miscellaneous work.
  • Performs operational maintenance, minor service and adjustment for building and physical plant; cleaning, testing and reporting.
  • Performs any other duties necessary and incidental as may be assigned by the Division Trades Supervisor and/or Assistant Trades Supervisor.

Work Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of commercial electrical, diagnostic test equipment; HVAC systems; building electrical equipment.
  • Safety practices associated with building electrical systems, components and/or equipment.
  • Comprehension of plans/blueprints and schematics.
  • Familiar with current NEC requirements.
  • Basic arithmetic.
  • Agency policies and procedures*.
  • Skill in operating hand and power tools related to repair and maintenance of building electrical and mechanical components, and equipment.
  • Ability to understand electrical systems and electrical process.
  • Work independently on most tasks.
  • Stand, walk or bend continuously; lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
  • Use mechanical equipment; radio and telephone communications*
  • Use limbs/fingers easily to perform manual tasks.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified individuals must possess an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Technology or equivalent degree, with two (2) years recent work experience as an electrician; or completion of Electrician Apprenticeship.
  • The two (2) years of experience must be in commercial/industrial type electrical work with voltage up to 480 volts, single and three-phase, performed in compliance with the National Electric Code standards.
  • HVAC equipment and controls experience is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Class "D" Ohio Driver License; a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of the permanent assignment or date of hire.
