Position Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager will work hand in hand with the Plant Manager and oversee the daily activities of the plant operations. The role is responsible for developing and managing production schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals, analyzing production metrics and making recommendations for improvements and solutions to issues that are identified, oversees staffing and development of all Production Supervisors and staff, and ensures safe operations and adherence to regulatory requirements. This role works closely with the department supervisors, other department leads, and processing team members, in order to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and to ensure that our customers receive quality products. This position executes processes that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations, supporting Foster Poultry Farms' mission, vision, and ACTION guiding principles: Accountability, Collaboration, Truth-Seeking, Initiative, Ownership, and Nimbleness.

Essential Functions



  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers' expectations.
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards.
  • Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping.
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
  • Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime.
  • Commit to plant safety procedures.
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Other duties as assigned.



All personnel employed or associated with Foster Poultry Farms are responsible for the quality and food safety of company products. The food safety and quality policies are summarized and communicated in a company handbook and at training sessions. Each new hire is provided a handbook and attends a food safety training session before beginning work. All employees attend a refresher training session at least once per year. Records are maintained reflecting the distribution of employee handbooks and attendance at the training sessions.

Physical Requirements

Qualified applicants must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:



  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor
  • Must be able to withstand a cold (40-48 degree) environment.
  • Must be able to withstand a hot (80+ degree) environment.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast pace work environment.



Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of proven management experience.
  • Prefer 6 years progressively responsible management in the food processing industry, preferably in the poultry business.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Must have demonstrated financial understanding to include budgeting, staffing and cost analysis.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills and drive.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Must have basic math skills.


  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels including management.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Decision making ability for the flagging of deviation from procedures.
  • Able to work safely and set an example of safe working habits for their coworkers.
  • Must be able to safely operate forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Must wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
