ERT is seeking a Scientific Programmer to support tasks at NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) to support satellite precipitation estimates and observational monitoring products.

Duties include:

  • Development of conventional and AI based algorithms for the construction of high-resolution satellite precipitation estimates;
  • Routine production of the CMORPH and CMORPH2 satellite precipitation estimates and other observational monitoring products; and
  • Applications of the above-mentioned data sets in climate, hydroclimate and decision-making support

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing large-scale observational data sets using objective analysis techniques and AI and in handling satellite observation data;
  • Extremely strong programing skills with Linux scripts, Fortran and other advanced languages such as Python
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware, data communications, and data structure;
  • Experience with numerical algorithms / schemes for objective analysis;
  • Skills in using computer based graphics software (e.g. GrADS, IDL);

Education
MS in atmospheric hydroclimate sciences or related physical sciences; PhD preferred

Location
This position supports work at NOAA's College Park, MD facility with some telework permitted. 40% in-office presence is required.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $46,000 - 221,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including the location, scope, and associated responsibilities of the specific position, as well as a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
