LOCATION: Story City, IA

SHIFT: 12 hr Nights, 7p-7a

SUMMARY: Assists the Plant Engineer and/or Maintenance Manager in the motivation and organization of the hourly maintenance personnel. This is accomplished through managing the plant work order system, preventative maintenance systems and the general repair of equipment and the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitate on the job training and instruction for team members on the correct use of tools and equipment to ensure proper safety and operating procedures are followed.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and understanding of the equipment capabilities to understand the daily manufacturing issues. Must assist the departments in ascertaining whether issues are related to the operator, method, or machine.
  • Assist in the inventory control of purchased suppliers that fall into the departmental responsibilities.
  • Participate directly and coordinate Maintenance Technician Training, actively practice and support directly and with Maintenance personnel the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Attend dashboard daily, if applicable. Review issues with Plant Engineer and/or Maintenance Manager.
  • Communicate with managers and supervisors throughout the day to address problems.
  • Expedite and monitor parts ordering for down equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues with the equipment. Communicate any ongoing issues to Plant engineer and Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, where applicable.
  • Spends a minimum of 4 hours per day assisting maintenance techs and apprentices on machine calls/project work and training "hands on".
  • Review completed work orders for completeness.
  • Schedule active preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Able to work various hours on short notice for special projects.
  • Actively participates in safety programs and makes safety observations.
  • Must possess a healthy work ethic.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must take responsibility for work assigned.
  • Follow and support all Plant Safety Rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Two-year certificate from college or technical school with a focus in machining and/or electronics; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

This position may require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs - reference your department-specific JHA (job hazard analysis) for departmental lifting restrictions.
