About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

As an intern at Viasat Arizona we will strive to provide you with tasking on real programs where your work product will be contributing to the success of the program. You will be working and learning alongside experienced engineers and have access to domain experts. In general, as a Digital Signal Processing engineer you will propose concepts to solve customer problems. You will help implement the system along with other systems engineers by employing technology assets across Viasat and our partners. The products and systems you will help define are in complex signal processing, radar, and communication applications. You will help build system solutions to solve a wide range of problems. You will work with interdisciplinary teams including Systems, Digital, RF circuits, hardware engineers, and others.

The day-to-day

Day-to-day DSP work for this internship may fall into one or more of the following categories:

  1. Floating-point simulation (Matlab)
    • Starting with a customer challenge, DSP tasks will include researching and designing the DSP algorithms required to solve that challenge.
  2. Fixed-point modeling (Simulink)
    • Given the evidence provided from floating-point simulation, DSP tasks will include creating a digital logic model that proves how logic blocks can process equivalent math within the constraints of the platform (when applicable).
  3. Lab implementation support
    • From the fixed-point modeling, DSP tasks will include generating test vectors that must be matched by team members in the Digital group. DSP tasks will include supporting the Digital team's implementation and ultimately leading the performance of the DSP algorithm as it is applied to the specific platform.
