Location: This position is onsite at the Ludington Pump Storage headquarter located in Ludington, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Senior Equipment Technician is responsible for overseeing the repair, maintenance, and requisitioning of long lead time substation, plant, and field equipment and related materials, approving drawing cycle administration, tracking, closeout, and continuous improvement based problem solving activities. The Senior Equipment Technician will ensure all equipment and repair adhere to all internal safety standards and local, state, and federal safety regulations. They maintain, operate and troubleshoot complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment for CMS Energy plant systems, repairing and calibrating electronic components and resolve process control software issues using electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments and various software. Knowledge of national electrical code and requirements for installations in hazardous environments They will also have responsibility for updating training materials and providing training to new employees and keep current staff informed of any new or updated equipment and processes and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, maintain, repair and replace complex field devices for plant instrumentation and control and plant equipment.
  • Develop plant system knowledge by working and receiving coaching from Instrumentation & Control Lead for continuous learning purposes.
  • Requisitions and/or selects and assigns long lead time equipment and materials in Service Now and SAP pursuant to substation project scopes. Resolves complex associated questions and details where appropriate; seeking guidance from supervisor. Uses data and tools to select battery strings and chargers. Initiates RFP cycles, selects bidders, evaluates bid and selects successful bidders, and involved in performance decisions. Identifies stock vs non-stock related tasks
  • Effectively communicate with internal stakeholder departments (Planning, Substation I&C, Electric Field Lab, Construction, Operations & Maintenance, Field Technical Services, EERC, Closeout, Property Accounting, System Protection) to resolve equipment related details (e.g., switch sketches related to existing installations) along with complex control design changes, implantation, testing, and tuning of plant equipment.
  • Leads improvements to enhance equipment performance and reliability. Develop cost reduction initiatives by effective utilization of materials and resources through the troubleshooting process.
  • Drive technical support to Operations, Maintenance and Dam Safety departments. Including Dam Safety inspections and monitoring and Environmental Health & Safety (Storm Water certified, contamination sampling, drinking water certified, Underground Storage Tank certification, monitor gas and diesel containments and systems).
  • Track project milestones and deliverables in spreadsheets and/or databases. This includes requestioning tasks, approval drawings, drawing cycle comment consolidation/resolution, final documentation, test reports archival. Leads continuous improvement forums (e.g., Quality/missing parts/damaged equipment problem solving associated with stakeholder feedback). Monitors performance and provides analysis and recommendations
  • Maintain complex digital control system(s) though install of updates (patches), logic updates/changes, tuning, graphical upgrades, and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Experience with CAD/PDF Markup systems
  • Construction knowledge and experience
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Work as a team or alone depending on the needs of the service
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities

Education/Experience

  • Associate Degree in Technical or scientific field and4+ years of relevant experience
  • [OR] High School diploma and 6+ years of relevant experience
