What this job involves

This role is responsible for the start-up, commissioning, and maintenance of the Siemens Building Automation System (BAS) and stand-alone Process Logic Controllers (PLCs). The Building Automation Engineer oversees controls projects, troubleshoots systems, and serves as the lead point of contact for controls systems used throughout the facility. This position requires expertise in programming, system integration, and project management to ensure optimal performance of automated building systems while maintaining compliance standards.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Manage the site's Siemens Building Automation System including changes, upgrades, programming, installations, and overall proper operation while generating system health reports
  • Plan and perform preventative maintenance and repair of controls-related HVAC and plant equipment while analyzing automation systems for improvement opportunities
  • Oversee programming of various standalone PLC platforms for mechanical equipment, waste management, and cold storage systems not controlled by the main BAS
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic control system malfunctions including both hardware and software components
  • Oversee installation, setup, and commissioning of third-party integration devices using Siemens P2, BACNet, and other communication protocols
  • Act as project manager for assigned controls projects ensuring successful completion within timelines and budgets
  • Interface with vendors and coordinate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Facilities, and IT to support system operations and maintenance

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high lift equipment
  • Working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, and above ceilings in various weather conditions
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and work/type at a computer in general office conditions
  • Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and hold heavy objects up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to heat, cold, day, and night conditions
  • General office working conditions with usually quiet noise levels

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and implementing installations or improvements to HVAC building automated systems
  • Experience in writing computer programs and software applications related to the HVAC industry
  • Knowledge of building automation systems and control system programming
  • Project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and vendors
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for electronic control systems
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance principles for controls-related equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Siemens Building Automation System certifications regarding programming and operation
  • Experience with building automation platforms such as Johnson Controls, Tridium, Delta, Honeywell, Allerton, or Automated Logic Controls
  • Experience integrating low voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols such as BACNet, N2, or Modbus
  • Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience with third-party system integration and commissioning processes
  • Background in graphics creation for Building Automation System interfaces
  • Familiarity with cross-functional collaboration in technical environments

Estimated compensation for this position:

70,000.00 - 80,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
