We are seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our Navy Systems team based in York, PA. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing operations within a machine shop environment, including manual and CNC machining centers. This role focuses on refining existing processes, resolving production issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The engineer will lead efforts in tooling development, equipment planning, and facility optimization, while also collaborating across departments to ensure smooth operations.

This position requires strong hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, a solid understanding of lean principles, and the ability to manage capital projects and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will be skilled in troubleshooting, process documentation, and technical assessments, with beneficial experience in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo. Success in this role depends on the ability to work cross-functionally, support vendor startups, and apply practical engineering solutions that align with operational goals.

As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, you will:




  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes, methods, tooling, and production controls for existing products and equipment.
  • Provide hands-on support to resolve day-to-day manufacturing issues and ensure stable production.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, uptime optimization, and process efficiency.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities within existing operations.
  • Manage capital equipment planning, justification, and procurement to support ongoing production needs.
  • Plan and implement facility changes to support efficient production of forecasted volumes.
  • Provide technical support across departments including Materials, Quality, Engineering, and Safety.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Lead and support 5S activities throughout the facility.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for critical manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of drawing changes.
  • Procure tooling, fixtures, and equipment necessary for production support.
  • Evaluate specifications and cost estimates to determine manufacturability, investment needs, and production feasibility.
  • Conduct technical assessments of suppliers and vendors.
  • Assist suppliers and vendors in production startup


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required with a minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering; with a focus on process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • In lieu of a degree, 7-10 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience may be considered
  • Strong background in machining operations, including manual and CNC equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead and implement lean manufacturing initiatives (e.g., 5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Experience in developing and maintaining standard work instructions and production controls.
  • Skilled in identifying cost-reduction opportunities and improving operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated success in managing capital equipment projects and facility layout changes.
  • Familiarity with evaluating manufacturability and conducting technical assessments of suppliers and vendors.
  • Ability to support supplier production startups and ensure alignment with quality and delivery expectations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), internet applications, and email.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, and Safety teams.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
