Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Indirect Tax Manager to support and manage a complex indirect tax function within a large, multi-state energy organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on tax professional with deep sales and use tax expertise who can independently manage compliance, audits, and tax planning initiatives while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and leadership. The position offers strong visibility, autonomy, and long-term growth potential within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Manage federal and state indirect tax compliance, filings, audits, and responses to tax notices
* Oversee sales and use tax compliance across multiple states, with emphasis on complex, non-retail transactions
* Lead and manage sales and use tax audits, including responding to information requests and explaining transaction data flows
* Ensure accurate accrual, reconciliation, and reporting of indirect tax balances in compliance with US GAAP and SOX controls
* Perform tax research and planning related to sales and use tax matters, including acquisitions, restructurings, and new business initiatives
* Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure indirect tax impacts are properly reflected in financial statements
* Provide guidance to internal business partners to minimize indirect tax exposure on current and future transactions
* Manage and maintain tax calendars to ensure timely filings, payments, and regulatory compliance
* Interface with external tax advisors, legal counsel, and taxing authorities as needed
* Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
* Lead or support the implementation of indirect tax technology and software solutions
* Support and review work performed by co-sourced or offshore tax resources
* Contribute to ad hoc tax projects and initiatives in support of senior tax leadership

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
* 8+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, with strong emphasis on sales and use tax
* Experience supporting large, multi-entity organizations with multi-state operations
* Solid understanding of indirect tax implications related to construction, repair, energy, or industrial activities
* Strong technical tax knowledge with familiarity with US GAAP and internal controls
* Proven ability to manage audits, deadlines, and competing priorities independently
* Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* CPA preferred; advanced degree in Tax or Accounting is a plus

Required Experience:

* Hands-on sales and use tax compliance and audit management experience
* Exposure to motor fuels or energy-related indirect taxes strongly preferred
* Experience working with indirect tax automation or ERP tax modules
* Ability to operate as a self-starter in a deadline-driven environment
* Experience collaborating cross-functionally with accounting, finance, and operations teams
* Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving business environment with minimal oversight
