Location: Virginia Beach, VA 23462

Duration: 06+ months

Pay Rate: $18.00/hr on W2


Work Hours: General Shift Timing 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Job Description:

  • The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health (VBDPH) seeks a dynamic, professional Public Health Outreach Worker who is passionate about improving the lives of the residents of the Virginia Beach community. This position will provide program and outreach support for the Healthy Families and BabyCare teams. Coordination of resources for families to include the following:
  • assist families in contacting and/or applying for needed resources,
  • assist families with transportation to needed appointments and resources,
  • partner with community agencies supplying needed resources,
  • pick up and delivery of needed supplies
  • assist with the VBDPH car seat class and safe sleep/pack and play programs
  • assisting with outreach events and creating outreach materials
  • Providing outreach to the community, bulding partnerships, to explain our home visiting programs and seek referrals
  • If Spanish speaking, assist home visiting staff with translation and communication to Spanish speaking families
  • This position will also assist in program support areas to include maintaining office supplies, data entry and assisting with purchase requests. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. As a contracted employee working at the VBDPH, may be required to assist state and government generally, in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. May be required to adjust work hours, location and job duties and participate in training to meet public health business.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with families and/or community agencies highly recommended, as listed in job description above.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ability to accurately take meeting minutes and ability to operate office equipment such as, scanners, copiers, and printers.
  • Maintain confidential records and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, organize and prioritize work, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines efficiently with little supervision.
  • Accurately maintain inventory of materials.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous administrative experience in a home visiting or similar setting, experience working with a culturally diverse population. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish. Associate or Bachelor's degree.


Special Requirements:

  • Driver's License: Active, unrestricted Virginia Driver's license and ability to use own vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
  • Required to take Defensive Driving course upon hire.
