Solid Waste DriverThe City of Red Bank has an immediate opening for a Solid Waste Driver. The Solid Waste Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of City-owned sanitation vehicles to support municipal waste collection and environmental maintenance. This position plays a vital role in maintaining community cleanliness and public health by performing a range of duties associated with solid waste, brush, recycling, leaf collection, and debris/snow/ice clearing. Assigned tasks vary based on vehicle type and route. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing reliable public service in support of the City’s sanitation and environmental goals. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor. Supervision Exercised: While this role does not entail formal supervisory duties such as performance evaluations or disciplinary authority, the incumbent may provide daily operation directs to two crew members assisting with garbage truck operations as Toters, based on vehicle assignment. Salary and Benefits: (G5) $52,721.76 annually + excellent benefits. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. Daily operates a City of Red Bank commercial solid waste vehicle with a GVWR of up to 32,000 lbs. (e.g., automated side loader garbage truck, semi-automated rear loader garbage truck, brush truck, leaf truck) to collect residential solid waste, brush, bulk trash, and leaves. Exercises routine oversight of Toter personnel assigned to any rear loader vehicle and trains, promotes safe practices, and coordinates workflow for a safe and effective route execution. May be required to drive other trucks of varying sizes for tasks requiring a dump truck, flatbed, or other heavy-duty wheeled vehicle. May be called upon to operate a dump truck with a snowplow and salt spreader attachments for snow and ice removal of their daily routes during inclement weather and when necessary. May be called upon to operate specialized equipment such as a knuckle-boom attachment for brush collection. Conducts thorough, daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicle(s) to verify vehicle safety, operational readiness, and compliance with regulatory standards. When assigned, leads the safe operation of any rear loader garbage truck by ensuring full compliance with safety standards (i.e., Rear Loader Riding Safety Protocols, ANSI Z245.1 standards) Ensures themselves and assigned Toters use mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for driving and toting operations. Ensures all equipment functions properly, is properly equipped with required safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, road markers, etc., that Toter support personnel engaged in the operation of rear loader garbage trucks adhere to safety protocols throughout the route. When assigned, drives and manages leaf collection vehicles during seasonal operations. Maintains route cleanliness by identifying and retrieving solid waste items unsuitable for automated hopper collection, ensuring no refuse is left behind, and service standards are upheld. Ensures the responsible use, routine care, and operational readiness of assigned City equipment through consistent daily cleaning and basic maintenance practices. Repairs or replaces damaged garbage cans on the assigned route. Must be able to set up a safety work zone using approved traffic control measures. Must be able to use a city-provided tablet to receive and/or close work orders assigned by the supervisor. Must have the ability to use a chainsaw and other tools necessary to clear a debris site. Promotes a safe work environment by following best practices, enforcing safety procedures, and ensuring that all support personnel comply with safety guidelines. Any other duties as assigned.
