Job Summary
The Associate, Cafeteria performs a variety of food service functions to ensure quality food and service to patients, staff, and visitors in the Main Cafeteria and cafeteria satellite locations, including the OR Lounge, Starbucks, Cyber Cafe, and BAIC.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and break down assigned workstations, including equipment, serving ware, utensils, supplies, and food items, ensuring stations are service-ready.
- Complete requisition forms for required food and supplies; obtain supervisor approval and submit requisitions to storeroom clerks.
- Retrieve food and supply orders from the storeroom and verify accuracy against requisitions.
- Review menu offerings and set up stations according to menus and station checklists, including posting appropriate signage.
- Store food and supplies in designated areas per station checklist.
- Conduct pre-service inspections of assigned stations and report any deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Replenish food and supplies to par levels throughout shifts to ensure availability during meal periods.
- Break down stations after each meal period according to established checklists.
- Prepare and serve food items in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Review food prior to service to ensure quality, appearance, presentation, portion size, and temperature meet established standards.
- Monitor food quality, appearance, and temperature during service; remove items not meeting standards and notify the supervisor.
- Serve food per patron requests within departmental guidelines and report any feedback regarding food quality to the supervisor.
- Prepare food items as required by station assignment, following established preparation guidelines and production sheets.
Cash Handling & Point of Sale Duties
- Transact food purchases using a computerized cash register system (InfoGenesis).
- Pick up assigned bank, verify amounts, and report discrepancies immediately to management.
- Sign on/off registers using assigned credentials and manage cash drawer contents appropriately.
- Accurately collect cash, charge payments, and MSKCC food service vouchers; provide correct change to patrons.
- Monitor and maintain adequate change levels, obtaining additional change as needed.
- Record deposit totals, deposit funds with MSKCC cashiers or cafeteria safe as required and enter deposit amounts into the system.
- Return assigned bank to personal vault or manager at the end of each shift.
