JOB SUMMARY An internship designed to provide on-the-job training and experience for entry-level to intermediate-level professionals. The WQIS Intern will engage in various work assignments, and projects that involve beach monitoring/sampling, business/facility inspections, and water quality monitoring.The intern will assist with various projects throughout their assignment, including, but not limited to: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Project Title: Water Quality Monitoring and Environmental Assessment - Conduct daily beach monitoring. - Assist with environmental assessment investigations and water quality sampling. - Support illicit discharge detection and elimination monitoring. Project Title: Industrial and Commercial Facility Surveillance - Conduction inspections of businesses, industrial facilities, hospitals, dental offices, etc. - Monitor wastewater discharges and compliance with environmental regulations. - Document findings and support enforcement of correction actions. Project Title: Equipment Maintenance and Field Support - Maintain and clean field sampling equipment. - Support field teams with logistics and technical needs. - Attend all development opportunities. - Participate in all projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the department. - Complete and document assigned project task. - Observe and follow all organizational procedures, policies, and regulations. - Participate in weekly supervision with department supervisor. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Academic Status/Standing: - Candidate must be enrolled in school or must have graduated within 24 months from the date of application. Field of Study: - Declared Majors: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering/Science, or closely related field of study. Degree Program Levels: - Bachelor's degree - Master's degree OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Candidate must be able to commit to a fixed-term assignment of either 4 months or 9 months with an option to extend at NEORSD's discretion. - Candidate must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) during normal business hours; Required to work a rotational schedule including weekend and holiday hours as needed. - Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines.
