Job Description

Essential Functions

Emergency Dispatching & Response Coordination 50%

  • Promptly answer emergency lines, general business lines, and College operator lines.
  • Dispatch appropriate personnel for police, fire, medical, or maintenance responses based on prioritization protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and timely logs for all service calls and officer activity in the College's
  • Automated Computer Dispatch Record Management System (CAD/IMC)Monitor and respond to fire, intrusion, panic, and trouble alarms; activate emergency mass notifications when directed.
  • Make time-sensitive notifications to College officials and outside agencies during emergencies or unusual situations.
  • Attend department meetings and training sessions as assigned.

Customer Service & Administrative Support 20%

  • Serve as the College's public safety operator, answering external and internal calls, and routing them appropriately.
  • Greet and assist walk-in visitors to the department in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Maintain composure with distressed callers or visitors; speak clearly and calmly at all times.
  • Assist with vehicle scheduling and credential verification for Pool Vehicle use.
  • Support the department's parking and access control operations (i.e., permit issuance, key distribution, OneCard functions).
  • Monitor security cameras for suspicious or concerning activity and report findings appropriately.

Public Safety Operations 20%

  • Utilize state and federal databases (e.g., NCIC, CJIS) to run license, warrant, and criminal history checks at officer request and as authorized.
  • Review logs, emails, training documents, and CJIS outputs at the start and throughout each shift.
  • Assist Campus Safety officers with community engagement and safety initiatives.

Training, Compliance, and Confidentiality 10%

  • Attend all required departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain certifications, including CJIS clearance, CPR, and First Responder credentials.
  • Adhere to department chain of command for communications and reporting.
  • Follow department policies and procedures and uphold strict confidentiality of all records and communications.
  • Maintain an alert and attentive demeanor throughout assigned shifts.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

This position is part of a team that operates 24/7/365. Shift assignments may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Uniforms are provided. All offers are contingent on successful completion of a background check, including CJIS clearance.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent + 1 to 5 years of experience in law enforcement, public safety, security, or emergency dispatching.

Knowledge of:

  • Relevant experience in law enforcement, public safety, security, or emergency dispatching.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn and use new software (IMC, EMS, ARMS, CJIS, OneCard, etc.).

Skills

  • Relevant experience in law enforcement, public safety, security, or emergency dispatching.
  • Experience in a campus or public safety dispatching environment.
  • Ability to multitask and manage high-pressure situations with professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality and data privacy.
  • Commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's Degree

Preferred Certification(s)

Certifications in CPR, CJIS, or APCO.
