Job Summary
The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and acts for the Vice Chancellor in their absence. The incumbent participates in the development of division-wide policy through membership on the Vice Chancellor's Council. Campus-wide and University-wide coordinating, policy development, and liaison responsibilities include membership on a variety of standing committees and boards. Responsible for budget planning and oversight, human resources, administrative and auxiliary operations, capital, and strategic planning for Student Housing, Dining Services, Divisional Operations and Information Technology. The AVC is responsible for directing multiple subordinate managers to ensure the success of complex, critical and essential services and programs that serve the entire UC Davis campus. Represents the Vice Chancellor and UC Davis to faculty, staff, students, UCOP, Regents, UC campuses and City of Davis. - Bachelor's degree in business administration, education, or any other related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- At least 10 years of progressive management experience in student housing within a comparably sized and complex higher education institution.
- Progressively responsible experience in fiscal management, human resource management, residential education, policy development, strategic planning and capital planning.
- Experience with student-centered service operations, residential and student-union focused programs for diverse audiences.
- Strategic planning experience within Student Affairs or a similar type of organziation at an institution of similar scale and complexity.
- Demonstrable experience leading cross-divisional initiatives while maintaining effective partnerships across university departments.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a variety of diverse audiences and constituencies.
- Evidence of strong leadership, conflict resolution and supervisory skills to support development and engagement of staff, student employees and student leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree, PhD, Ed.D. or other advanced degree preferred
- Ability to solicit constructive input from and develop eventual consensus among groups and constituencies with differing priorities and perspectives; strong background in facilitating and cultivating collaborations among campus groups and departments.
- Proven experience in organization-wide talent development across multiple departments.
- Proven experience supervising and developing senior-level leaders, including Executive Directors and Directors offering coaching, mentorship, and strategic direction to promote excellence and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Proven experience as a strategic information technology partner.
- Experience leading or contributing to university housing master planning, or managing large-scale residential construction and renovation projects.
- Progressive experience with auxiliary enterprise models, including developing new revenue streams and resources.
- Executive-level leadership in housing operations, facilities management, capital improvement planning, campus planning, construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance.
- Strong proficiency in policy development, risk management, and compliance with applicable campus, UC system, local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., information security policies, ADA, Clery, Title IX, OSHA).

Department Overview The mission of the UC Davis Division of Student Affairs is to catalyze and sustain meaningful partnerships to create equitable and holistic outcomes that align with the evolving aspirations and needs of our communities. Within Student Affairs are units such as Housing and Dining, Campus Recreation, Operations, Student Health and Counseling Services, Student Life, Campus Community Centers, Retention Services, and Student Success & Equity Innovation. The division is composed of 26 departments, 1200 career employees, 3,500 student employees, with an annual operating budget of over $300 million.
The Associate Vice Chancellor of Housing, Dining, Divisional Operations and Technology operates with an extremely high degree of autonomy to manage the full scope of administrative services for multiple large and high impact units, through subordinate management staff.
Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary which provides housing and food service operations to 15,000 students who live on campus in residence halls and apartments. Dining Services provides all food operations including dining halls, retail locations, catering, concessions and vending. Over 30,000 meals are delivered daily. SHDS has an annual operating budget and debt coverage of $18365M and employs 650 career staff and 1,600 student staff. Departments include Facilities Services, Business Operations, Dining Services, Student Development, and Inclusion/Culture/Belonging.
Divisional Operations (DO) has operational oversight for all Student Affairs properties that are not managed by SHDS. These properties include administrative space as well as programmatic space such as the University Credit Union Center, Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC), Student Services Center (SSC) and others. DO has 20 career staff and 174 student staff and has an annual operating budget of $9.5M. DO is also responsible for the planning and delivery of all minor/capital projects and events within all spaces.
Information technology (SA-IT) has oversight of all information technology, cyber security risk management, and asset management across the division. The unit has over 20 staff.
