BASIC PURPOSE To supervise in the transportation department as it pertains to store deliveries, donation pick-ups and seasonal shipping/receiving. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan daily routes based on pick-ups assigned. Oversee delivery and pick up schedules for the Transportation Department
- Ensure that all calls are made as scheduled, and that care is taken to ensure the security and safe handling of all donated goods and materials.
- Instruct and supervise truck helpers, keeping in mind that helper is in a rehabilitation program and that good personal and professional work habits are taught by example, as well as by instruction.
- Responsible for the safety and security of the truck and equipment. Complete Truck Inspections Report daily and report maintenance and safety conditions.
- Promptly report to immediate supervisor all accidents involving trucks, personal injury or property damage.
- Act as the representative of The Salvation Army and ensure that all customers are treated courteously. Immediately report all problems that occur during donation pick-ups to director through dispatch.
- Responsible for the loading and unloading of assigned truck. Assist in the loading or unloading of other trucks as requested.
- Attend all driver safety meetings.
- Report all infractions of safety procedures to the Transportation Supervisor, including drivers backing up their trucks without the assistance of a back-up guide.
- Perform all new hire driver road tests and oversee required driver training.
- Train all drivers in DOT Regulations, safety policies, driver procedures, and general duties.
- Oversee all State driver regulated policies and procedures are followed for all ARP assigned drivers.
- Maintain daily driver records, keeping accurate and detailed logs
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, the Center Administrator, or their designated representatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet State of Department of Motor Vehicles licensing requirements for the operation of trucks of the type used by this Center.
- Must pass fleet driving test as required by TSA policy.
- Be able to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to pass a road test.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.
- Requires exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to operate a wireless phone or radio.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
