Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Reports to Production Manager and is responsible for directing the activities of shift production personnel in a safe and efficient manner for the desired quality and quantity of work. Ensures compliance with all safety, ISO, SQF and Berry standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures all employees are aware, trained and adhere to safe work practices and holding associates accountable to the PPE policy.
  • Promptly reports any first-aid, injury, liquid or resin spill, etc. Leads the 7:45am shift meetings.
  • Ensures relevant information is disseminated to all employees on his/her shift utilizing the daily messages and Tool Box meeting.
  • Directs all shift personnel to achieve safety, quality, cost and delivery objectives.
  • Holds all employees accountable to the established standards and expectations for safety, production, KPIs, SQF, and ISO.
  • Leads and actively participates with shift in creation and implementation of continuous improvement plans and activities.
  • Maintains shift adherence to all ISO, SQF, 5S, housekeeping standards and policies.
  • Ensures completion of all required quality testing and set up procedures including First Piece Approval and changeover checklist and Tech check sheets.
  • Accurately completes any Quality Hold documentation prior to end of shift.
  • Promptly reports maintenance and safety issues and generates the required maintenance work orders.
  • Recommends the hiring, discipline and termination of shift personnel.
  • Completes evaluation and performance reviews of shift personnel.
  • Responsible for the training, cross training and completion of documentation of all personnel.
  • Ensures Food Safety Good Manufacturing Practices and ISO Quality System processes are maintained.
  • All other assignments, general and specific, as directed by Plant and/or Department Management

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience, preferably in an extrusion/converting environment with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with SQF and ISO a plus
  • Experience with Lock out/tag out and understanding of general safe work practices
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills. Should be able to effectively address large groups of employees.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to direct, coach and motivate others effectively.
  • Must be able to work effectively with cross-functional teams to meet common goals and achieve continuous improvement objectives.
  • Moderate to strong computer skills. Able to use Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc. to read and generate reports, charts, production data, etc.
