Job Description
Job Purpose
The primary focus of this position is on the design and engineering of custom automated equipment, machinery & tooling used in the fabrication of composite structures. The position's objectives will span the range from proof of concept through the release of first generation equipment & tooling into production.
Job Responsibilities

- Design and document new or modified mechanical equipment and tooling in support of high performance composites manufacturing
- Create solid models, detail drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change notices
- Create specifications, statements of work, manuals, acceptance criteria, & qualification protocols
- Coordinate requirements for new equipment & tooling systems / sub-systems
- Perform critical analysis of electro-mechanical systems & tool designs
- Utilize and employ US and international design and safety standards & guidelines
- Drive design reviews to ensure conformance with engineering design standards and performance specifications
- Participate in design reviews to provide data input, calculations, conclusions and ideas
- Work with Manufacturing Engineers and Production Technicians to implement new designs, resolve manufacturing problems in support of the manufacturing process
- Drive and maintain project schedule and scope
- Collaborate with internal supply chain personnel and external suppliers during procurement process
- Perform and contribute to cost analysis and return on investment evaluations
- Drive continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost
- Create purchase requisitions in SAP and track tooling components using SAP
- Interface with equipment & tooling vendors and material suppliers in support of projects
- Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time based on current business needs
Experience/Education/Skills
Qualifications/Characteristics
Knowledge:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline required. Experience may be substituted for education at management's discretion
- 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering design
- Basic understanding of RTM tooling and composites fabrication is a plus
- Basic knowledge of all relevant guidance documentation; ANSI, ASTM, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, etc.
- Experience in mold tool design is a plus
- Familiarity and/or experience with machining processes
- Capability to understand and interpret engineering drawings, with a solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience or training in aerospace composites or textile manufacturing is desirable
- Lean Six Sigma training and/or experience is a plus
Skills:
- Strong understanding of equipment systems, machine part manufacturing techniques, and the sequence of design phases associated with machine & tooling design
- Experience taking designs from concept through production
- Ability to create, understand, and interpret engineering drawings
- Proficient in the use of SolidWorks (other 3D cad modeling experience will be considered)
- Experience with Microsoft software (MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel, Project)

Working Conditions
Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work traditional Monday through Friday schedule and be available for occasional overtime as business situations demand, occasional limited travel may be required.
Physical requirements
Occasionally positions self to move an office item >10 lbs.
Frequently move about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings
Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time
Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc.
