Assists Physical Rehabilitation Services staff by preparing and transporting patients for treatment. Prepares therapeutic equipment for use by patient. Assists therapists with patient treatment. Priority is given to patient care, and then to secretarial duties that include: Maintaining Physical Rehabilitation Services outpatient and inpatient voucher/charge records; prepares and helps to maintain outpatient electronic medical records, files, and voucher; answers incoming telephone calls; receives and helps to order storeroom supplies; maintains required records; performs duties in accordance with JCAHO, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures on an as needed basis. Obtains and monitors insurance authorizations, assists with obtaining retro authorization and denial appeal process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. CPR Certification. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Transfers patients requiring assistance from bed to chair and back. 3. Prepares patient for transport to Physical Rehabilitation Services; provides assistance with dressing and special equipment, including IV bottles, braces and catheters. 4. Transports patients using appropriate means, including carts, wheelchairs, and assistance with ambulating; signs patients off and on patient care floors; brings charts to Physical Rehabilitation Services; stamps patient vouchers and appropriate documentation sheets. 5. 7. Notifies Director or Therapist concerning equipment malfunctions. 8. Attends and participates in in-service programs and departmental meetings. 9. Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. (Neonatal 0-11 months, Pediatric 1-12 years, Adolescent 13-17 years, Adult 18-79 years, Geriatric 80+ years)
10. Maintains clean work area and proper supply of inventory. 11. Assists in maintaining appropriate departmental statistics, i.e., the "Daily Log' of inpatient and outpatient treatments. Enters treatment charges daily. 12. Prepares outpatient electronic medical records / charts for each therapist at the beginning of each work day or the night before. This includes pulling each file, registration of patient to allow for transfer to outpatient therapy electronic documentation system, preparing insurance face sheet, and placing patient appointment on the therapist's schedule. 13. Answers incoming phone calls efficiently and courteously. 14. Records appropriate information from new outpatients and assists director and/or therapist with scheduling of new patient. 15. Assists with scheduling or existing patients. 16. Receives and orders storeroom supplies. 17. Receives mail and routes to director or appropriate department individual. Completes any necessary written or verbal correspondence, as directed, and forwards to the appropriate person. 18. Responsible for maintenance of storage system for keeping records. 19. Attends and participates in in-service programs and departmental meetings.
