Job Summary

The Lead System and Database Administrator will be a hands-on position responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of our server and database environments. This role requires expertise in managing Linux and Windows operating systems, database platforms including Oracle and PostgreSQL, and virtualized infrastructure. Familiarity with Nutanix and experience with backup solutions such as Rubrik is a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and migrations while minimizing disruption.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to enhance reliability and scalability.
  • Manage and optimize virtualized environments using predominantly using Nutanix.AHV hypervisor (knowledge of similar technology such as VMware or KVM is acceptable)
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement tuning recommendations.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes to meet organizational requirements.
  • Design and implement database security measures, including encryption, role-based access, and auditing.
  • Manage virtual environments, including resource allocation, monitoring, and scaling.
  • Work with Nutanix or similar hyper-converged infrastructure solutions to ensure efficient system performance.
  • Oversee storage solutions, ensuring adequate capacity and redundancy.
  • Manage backup systems (Rubrik) ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure rapid recovery of critical systems and databases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT systems with organizational goals.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and security.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system and database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards and industry regulations, including data protection and cybersecurity policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in system and database administration.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.) and Windows operating systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration, including clustering and replication.
  • Experience managing virtualized environments using platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery solutions, especially Rubrik.
  • Strong understanding of scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills.

  • Certifications such as RHCE, MCSE, Oracle Certified Professional, or PostgreSQL certifications.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure integration.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOX.

This position is identified as being performed in/or reporting to company operations in New York State. The pay range at the time of posting in the specified locations is $120,000 - $140,000/year. Pay ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience.
