Summary of Position

Responsible for maintaining all Salvation Army properties and vehicles. This is a regular part time position with a workweek expectation of 15 hours per week, including occasional weekend or evening hours for special events or emergencies.

Wage: $12.15 per hour, 15 hours a week

Qualifications

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with two years custodial experience. Must have a pass the background checks. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Maintain all mechanical equipment in clean and proper working order; check boiler, furnaces, and air-conditioning and arrange for maintenance/repair as needed.
  • Maintain facilities; change light bulbs and perform minor repairs, etc.
  • Maintain grounds; to include snow and ice removal, mow, weed, rake, edge, trim and water as needed.
  • Keep entrances and sidewalks swept and free of debris.
  • Assist in transporting, loading, unloading and storing of product as needed.
  • Regularly clean restrooms, sinks, vanities, dispensers, mirrors, toilets; to include stocking paper towels and toilet paper, filling soap dispensers, changing deodorizers, and emptying trash.
  • Set up and tear down rooms for program use.
  • Clean and maintain non-carpeted floors by whatever means necessary and by using appropriate equipment as needed.
  • Dust and vacuum as needed.
  • Clean windows, sills and blinds as needed.
  • Empty trash as needed.
  • Keep all maintenance and janitorial supplies in good order.
  • Inform the office in writing when supplies are low.
  • Keep janitor closet orderly and clean.
  • All equipment and supplies should be kept in janitor closet or designation storage location.
  • Report safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co
  • workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.

  • And all other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, with the exception of the occasional emotional distress or turmoil (due to varying situations) with and between staff and/or clients. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home.

Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Risk Level

Risk Level 1 - The tasks or activities conducted by Risk Level 1 would involve no known expectation of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

  • Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, maps and atlases.
  • Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses.
