Equipment Operator - Rigger

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

A Rigger is responsible for safely preparing, securing, and guiding loads during lifting and moving operations using cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. The Rigger ensures proper rigging techniques are used to lift, move, position, and secure heavy or oversized loads in construction or industrial environments. This role requires strong knowledge of load calculations, rigging hardware, hand and power signals, and strict adherence to safety standards. The Rigger works closely with crane operators, supervisors, and ground personnel to ensure lifts are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulations.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Equipment Operator - Rigger: $

Pay commensurate with experience.

Equipment Operator - Rigger Responsibilities Include:

  • Safely rig, secure, and guide loads for lifting, moving, and placement using cranes, forklifts, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
  • Select and inspect appropriate rigging gear, including slings, chains, shackles, hooks, spreader bars, and lifting devices, prior to use.
  • Perform pre-lift inspections and verify load weight, balance, center of gravity, and proper rigging configurations.
  • Communicate clearly with crane and equipment operators using standard hand signals, verbal commands, or radio communication.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and positioning materials, equipment, and structures at construction sites, warehouses, or industrial facilities.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety standards, lift plans, and protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to equipment and materials.
  • Identify and report damaged, worn, or defective rigging equipment and remove it from service.
  • Maintain accurate records of rigging inspections, equipment usage, and lift-related documentation as required.
  • Support site preparation activities, including staging materials, clearing work areas, and ensuring safe access for lifting operations.
  • Conduct minor maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and properly storing rigging equipment.
  • Assess site conditions, including terrain, overhead obstructions, weather, and environmental hazards, and adjust rigging operations accordingly.
  • Ensure all rigging and lifting activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety and quality policies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Equipment Operator - Rigger Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing rigging and lifting operations, preferably in a construction or industrial environment.

  • Proficiency in rigging techniques, load calculations, and the use of rigging hardware and lifting devices.

  • Working knowledge of cranes, forklifts, hoists, and other material-handling equipment.

  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to rigging, lifting, and material handling.

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, lift plans, drawings, and technical documents.

  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions and utilize inventory or tracking systems.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to provide clear hand and radio signals.

  • Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, patience, organization skills, and time management.

  • Ability to perform basic inspections and maintenance of rigging equipment and report mechanical or safety concerns.

  • Capability to assess challenging worksite conditions and adapt rigging methods accordingly.

  • Must be able to pass required licensing or certification for rigging and equipment operation.

  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
