About the College/Unit/Department
This position will be an integral part of the team within the Office of Development and Alumni Relations ( ODAR) in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences ( CAES) and reports to the Senior Director of Development. CAES has an alumni network of 20,000+ and consistently raises over $12 million annually. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for providing strategic direction for all aspects of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences alumni engagement program, advancing communication, volunteerism, and philanthropy among alumni and friends. The Director will develop and implement innovative programs and communication strategies to engage the College's alumni, connecting alumni to each other, to the College, and to current students.
The position will work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents and must have an established history in building meaningful relationships and volunteer engagement.

Alumni Engagement

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy to foster increased participation by alumni and stakeholders, resulting in life-long engagement and support of the institution.
  • Develop and enhance communications to creatively strengthen the link between the College and alumni, working collaboratively with the CAES ODAR Development and Alumni Relations Coordinator and the CAES Office of Marketing and Communications, including but not limited to: social media, alumni e-newsletters, content and editing for CAES publications, using the latest technology and marketing strategies to communicate effectively with alumni.
  • Collaborate with CAES departments and the CAES Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs to provide opportunities for alumni involvement with the College and its students.
  • Collaborates with internal CAES partners and broader University partners to identify and integrate resources to accomplish strategic goals.
  • Update alumni information in database, track class notes, develop queries and exports, and work closely with development to identify prospects and aid in the cultivation process.
  • Track and report on alumni engagement metrics.
  • Coordinate alumni engagement events, which may fall on evenings and weekends, and represent the College at select conferences and events where alumni are present. Collaborate with the Signature Events Coordinator to engage and recognize alumni as needed.
  • Develop and implement an annual and long-term strategic plan to engage alumni through regional events and programs to build their connection and sense of belonging within the alumni community.

Duties/Responsibilities
Board Association Leadership

  • Serve as the Executive Director of the CAES Alumni Association whose mission is to connect, engage, and celebrate with alumni and friends of the college.
  • Lead and execute key functions of the board to increase alumni engagement including board recruitment, budgeting, management, strategic planning, and implementation in partnership with the CAES Alumni Association Executive Committee and under the leadership and direction of the CAES Dean and the Senior Director of Development. Support and manage progress of board initiatives, volunteer committees, and goals for fundraising and engagement.
  • Work with the CAES Alumni Association Board of Directors to plan the annual meeting and other virtual and committee meetings throughout the year.
  • Develop and manage the budget and administer the disbursement of funds from the CAES Alumni Association Eterna Fund to support alumni activities, scholarships, and student organizations.
  • Coordinate the CAES Alumni Association Awards which recognize individuals for exemplary service to the mission of the CAES Alumni Association and College by utilizing the volunteer alumni committees responsible for selecting the award recipients, the identification of candidates, and the promotion and recognition of the program (working collaboratively with the CAES Signature Events Coordinator) to elevate the recognition of our college's impact beyond our campus through our alumni.

Collaboration/Other Duties

  • Actively contribute to the CAES ODAR team's fundraising success by identifying alumni who are poised for philanthropic gift conversations and engagement as volunteers. Partner with the annual giving and major gifts teams to build and execute strategies for increasing support.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents, including alumni, parents/guardians, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Manage a travel and operations budget and plan trips strategically.
  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Annual Giving to inform and develop alumni outreach activities for the CAES Student Philanthropy Council.
  • Coordinate with CAES leadership and Central Development staff regarding alumni engagement strategies and the promotion of University-wide alumni engagement programs such as the UGA Mentor program and UGA Alumni Association awards.
  • Attend CAES ODAR team meetings, University Development and Alumni Relations meetings, and selected trainings. Work collaboratively with CAES faculty and staff of academic departments and programs, other alumni relations colleagues, and other UGA offices as needed to benefit CAES.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned for alumni and development events, football Saturdays, and other special events which frequently fall on nights and weekends.
