The Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst is responsible for the effective management of software assets within an organization. The role involves tracking, monitoring, and managing software licenses, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements, and optimizing software usage to achieve cost efficiencies. The SAM Analyst works closely with various departments, including IT, procurement, finance, and legal, to ensure that the organization's software assets are effectively managed throughout their lifecycle.

Essential Job Function

  • Software License Management: Track and manage software licenses, ensuring that the organization complies with licensing agreements.
  • This includes monitoring license usage, conducting audits, and maintaining an accurate inventory of software assets.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure that the organization adheres to software licensing agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • This involves conducting regular audits, addressing non-compliance issues, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to optimize software usage and reduce costs.
  • This includes analyzing software usage patterns, negotiating with vendors, and recommending the most cost-effective licensing options.
  • Software Asset Inventory: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all software assets within the organization.
  • This involves tracking software installations, usage, and decommissioning.
  • Vendor Management: Develop and maintain relationships with software vendors.
  • This includes negotiating licensing agreements, managing vendor performance, and addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement software asset management policies and procedures to ensure effective management of software assets.
  • This includes defining roles and responsibilities, establishing governance frameworks, and creating guidelines for software usage.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports and provide analysis on software asset management activities.
  • This includes tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including IT, procurement, finance, and legal, to ensure effective management of software assets.
  • This involves coordinating efforts, sharing information, and addressing any challenges that may arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field

Experience

  • Required: 3 years experience in in software asset management, IT asset management, or a related field Preferred: Experience with software asset management tools and technologies is also beneficial.
