The Opportunity with McKinstry

McKinstry is seeking a Business Operations Specialist to join our growing National Technical Services division. This role is responsible for the setup, execution, and closeout of projects, partnering closely with project owners to manage project financials and performance. The ideal candidate understands gross margin markups and budget management and is comfortable analyzing booking information, contract language, and subcontractor and vendor setup. They also track project performance and proactively identify and escalate potential issues.

This position is part of a nationally distributed team and follows a hybrid work model, with regular collaboration from the local McKinstry office. The role reports to the Senior Project Manager, Technical Services.

We are looking for a flexible, inquisitive, and analytical professional who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment, takes ownership of their work, and is eager to learn new systems and technologies while growing with a dynamic team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiate projects, identifying potential inaccuracies and risks.

  • Analyze burn rates, potential write-ups, and lessons learned for individual projects.

  • Manage invoicing to keep projects current, including reviewing under-billings and associated risks.

  • Support projections and WIP reporting, escalating issues to the Operations Manager or Regional Director as needed.

  • Track and follow up on write-ups and write-downs.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support project and team success.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Possess a solid understanding of and experience with project financials, including budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting.

  • Demonstrate understanding of basic accounting and financial management processes.

  • Provide business support services in a large organization or multi-office environment (preferred).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with advanced Excel skills and data analysis preferred.

  • Experience with Planisware and Viewpoint is a plus.

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Manage multiple tasks and competing priorities with urgency and precision.

  • Flexible, inquisitive, and analytical, able to adapt to changing priorities and solve problems effectively.

  • Willing and able to travel as needed.

  • Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office (reimbursed).

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $42.93 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This is a non-exempt role and will be paid hourly. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
