Under general supervision, answer all incoming calls; connect all incoming and outgoing calls; page physicians; obtain long distance information and place calls for physicians, personnel and families; provide patient information. Receive class registration & physician referral calls. May serve as Dispatcher for Safety and Security, Maintenance Departments, and other offsite locations. Position Details:

Communication Services Operator

Full Time

Mercy - Fort Smith

This position will include the following schedule:

6:30a-2:30p, 6:45a-2:45p, occasional mid-day shift or evening shift

Rotating weekends and holidays are required

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Telephone or customer service experience beneficial.
Other:

o Basic computer and keyboarding skills
o Must be able to navigate multiple computer software systems simultaneously
o Ability to communicate clearly in English both orally and written
o Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Details of position:

  • Needs to be comfortable using different programs (MediCall/operator console, Everbridge/mass notification system, Excel, etc.) and multitasking.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Scope of responsibilities:
    • answer/transfer calls
    • page/call physicians
    • take consults
    • answering service afterhours
    • page out codes and alerts
    • manage hospitalists admissions rotations
    • monitor fire panel, HUGS system, weather band & med gas alarms
    • Assists in maintaining and updating on-call schedules with support from clinics and departments.
  • Ability to work in a stationary role for an extended period of time.
  • Mostly daytime position but may include mid or evening shifts as needed for coverage.
  • Rotates every other weekend and holiday.
