R&D Engineer - Polymer Science / Medical Devices

Location: Maple Grove, MN

Pay Rate: $58 per hour

We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer with expertise in polymer science and biomaterials to support the development of next-generation cardiovascular implant technologies. This role focuses on polymer membrane design, material characterization, and early-stage product development within a fast-paced medical device environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and integrate innovative polymer-based materials for high-performance implantable devices.
• Conduct material characterization testing, analytical chemistry analysis, and data interpretation.
• Develop and validate novel test methods for new product applications.
• Prototype concepts and refine materials, coatings, adhesives, and membrane technologies.
• Apply scientific and engineering principles to guide technical decisions across complex development programs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams.
• Document technical findings, development activities, and change requests.
• Analyze engineering challenges and recommend data-driven solutions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• 3+ years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree or 1+ year with a Master's degree.
• Experience in new product development for implants or cardiovascular medical devices.
• Hands-on experience with medical device polymers, biomaterials, and polymer membrane design.
• Strong analytical testing and problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in team environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in early-phase product development and PDP lifecycle environments.
• Background in coatings, adhesives, and material optimization.
• Strong communication, technical judgment, and decision-making skills.
