As a Principal Engineer Manager in Product Fabric,you willbe responsibleforgrowinga highperforming engineering team responsible for Copilot quality and health signals, including ASHA, reliability, performance, and experience metrics that inform product planning, experimentation, and business reviews across Microsoft 365 Copilotand Apps.You willdefine the long-term strategy and lead the systems that power customer experience measurement across Microsoft. This role combines platform ownership with insight generation, ensuring product teams and leaders have trusted data to make informed decisions that improve customer outcomes.

You willoperateas a player-coach, balancing deep technical engagement withpeopleleadership, while influencing across organizations. This is a highly visible, partner-facing role that requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to drive alignment and outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a highperforming engineering team responsible for Copilot quality and health signals, including ASHA, reliability, performance, and experience metrics that inform product planning, experimentation, and business reviews across Microsoft 365 Copilot surfaces.
  • Own the technical health and evolution of Copilot experience metrics, ensuring they areaccurate, resilient, explainable, and trusted at scale across millions of user interactions, and that they meaningfully reflect customer value, engagement, and retention drivers.
  • Partner deeply with product, reliability, performance, experimentation, and data science teams to onboard new Copilot scenarios, refine quality and veto logic, and connect experience metrics with adjacent signals such as latency, failure modes,etc.
  • Lead the design and delivery of Leading Business Indicators (LBIs) that are causally predictive of key business outcomes (e.g., adoption, retention, upsell), enabling faster, data-driven product and experimentation decisions across Copilot experiences.
  • Build and scale reliable metric and analytics systems by operationalizing causal models, automating workflows (generation, drift detection, refresh), and partnering with product, data science, and engineering teams to translate insights into actionable product strategy.
  • Drive engineering excellence throughstrong designreviews, operational rigor, oncall health, incident learning, and continuous improvement of metric reliability, data quality, and endtoend observability forcustomerexperiences.
  • Translate ambiguous customer and business problems into clear engineering priorities, balancing speed, quality, and longterm sustainability while ensuring metricsremainactionable for decisionmaking and experimentation.
  • Model Microsoft's leadership principles by coaching engineers, fostering inclusion and psychological safety, and investing in the technical and career growth of your team.
  • Communicate clearly with senior leaders, using Copilot quality and health insights to explain customer impact, tradeoffs, risks, and progress in a concise, datadriven manner that supports growth and customer retention goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience in distributed systems, data platforms, or largescale telemetry pipelines.
  • 2+years of people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead and grow high-performing engineering teams.
  • Solid software engineering background with experience in distributed systems, data platforms, or largescale telemetry pipelines.
  • Experience with full-stack development and cloud-based services.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and evolve production systems with high reliability, correctness, and operational maturity.
  • Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries and influencing without authority.
  • Experience working on customer experience metrics, reliability/performance systems, or experimentation platforms.
  • Familiarity with datadriven decision frameworks and translating complex signals into actionable insights for engineering and product teams.
  • Experienceoperatingat Microsoftscale or similar environments with high data volume and crossteam dependencies.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers and building inclusive, hightrust teams.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
