Our signature technologies - drypowder formulations and advanced inhalation devices- enable rapid, convenient delivery of medicines to the deep lung, where they can act locally or enter systemic circulation depending on the target indication.

Position Summary


As Head of Field Medical, this role provides executive leadership for the national MSL organization, setting strategic direction for scientific engagement, external credibility, and insight generation across MannKind's portfolio. The VP, Field Medical ensures bestinclass scientific exchange with key opinion leaders, academic centers, and healthcare stakeholders while aligning field medical strategy with clinical development, lifecycle management, and enterprise objectives.


Key Responsibilities


Enterprise MSL Leadership & Strategy

* Define and execute the national MSL strategy aligned with corporate objectives, therapeutic area priorities, and pipeline evolution.

* Lead a geographically dispersed, highperforming MSL organization, fostering scientific excellence, accountability, and continuous development.

* Establish clear expectations, governance, and performance standards for MSL field engagement.

Scientific Engagement & External Impact

* Set strategic standards for scientific exchange with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, and healthcare stakeholders.

* Serve as executive sponsor for critical external relationships where senior medical leadership presence is required.

* Ensure MSLs deliver high quality, non-promotional scientific communication consistent with product evidence and disease state needs.

Insight Generation & Strategic Influence

* Oversee the systematic collection, synthesis, and communication of actionable field insights to inform medical strategy, clinical development, and lifecycle management.

* Translate external perspectives into enterprise level recommendations for pipeline prioritization, study design, and evidence generation.

Cross Functional Leadership

* Partner with Clinical Development, Commercial, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Regulatory, and Market Access to ensure alignment between field scientific strategy and organizational priorities.

* Provide senior medical input to launch readiness, disease strategy, and post marketing evidence initiatives.

Compliance, Governance & Operational Excellence

* Ensure all MSL activities comply with applicable regulations, medical governance standards, internal policies, and industry codes.

* Establish and monitor national KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics; regularly report progress and insights to executive leadership.

* Oversee MSL onboarding, training curricula, and ongoing competency assessments to maintain best in class scientific rigor.


P eople Leadership & Organizational Structure

* Provide direct leadership to two Senior MSL Leaders, each responsible for supervising and developing a team of 6-10 Medical Science Liaisons.

* Establish clear leadership expectations, performance standards, and accountability across a multilayered national MSL organization.

* Coach and mentor direct reports to strengthen their effectiveness as field leaders, including talent assessment, performance management, and succession planning.

* Ensure consistent application of MSL strategy, scientific standards, and engagement models across all regions through strong leadertoleader alignment.

* Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and high scientific rigor by empowering MSL leaders to develop, motivate, and retain topperforming teams.


Education and Experience Qualifications:


Education

* Advanced scientific or clinical degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, PA, or equivalent).


Experience

* Minimum 15 years of experience in Medical Affairs, with progressive leadership responsibility within an MSL organization.

* At least 5 years of senior leadership experience managing national or multi regional MSL teams.

* Demonstrated success in building and scaling high performing field medical organizations.

* Proven ability to lead in a highly matrixed environment and influence without direct authority.

* Strong strategic, analytical, and executive communication skills.

* Experience in endocrinology, cardiometabolic, pulmonology, or related therapeutic areas strongly preferred.


Industry Knowledge

* Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, Medical Affairs best practices, and scientific exchange standards.

* Expert knowledge of compliance requirements, medical governance, and regulations governing field scientific engagement.
