Building Inspector

Help shape the future of our community! We’re seeking a detail-oriented, service-driven Building Inspector to join our Community Development team. In this vital role, you’ll safeguard public safety, ensure high-quality construction standards, and support responsible growth throughout our city.

As a Building Inspector, you’ll review residential and commercial projects for compliance with building codes and local ordinances, conduct on-site inspections, and collaborate with contractors, developers, and residents to keep projects moving smoothly. You’ll serve as a trusted resource—educating stakeholders, solving problems, and promoting safe, sustainable development.

Default schedule will be the following: 5/8's Mon-Fri 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

• Please note: No telecommuting available - this is a field position
  

What will you do in this position?

• Inspects residential buildings and structures, built or altered, to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Review construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to verify compliance prior to permit approval.
• Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and citations for code violations; re-inspect to verify corrective actions.
• Researches and studies State and local building, plumbing, and mechanical codes and standards.
• Provides clear guidance and technical expertise to contractors, architects, property owners, and the public

A successful candidate in this position will:

• Show highly analytical and complex problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize work, and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Communicate clearly and maintain positive interactions to build trust across departments, with stakeholders, vendors, and customers.
• Have knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply, building codes and construction practices.
• Identify issues quickly, apply logical analysis, and develop effective solutions using data and sound judgment.
• Deliver reliable, high-quality work that positively impacts residents and colleagues.
