The University of Rochester Department of Modern Languages and Cultures invites applications for a 2-year visiting assistant professorship in Spanish beginning in Fall 2026. We particularly welcome applications from scholars specializing principally in 20th- and 21st-century Spain, with the ability to also teach Latin American film, media, popular culture, and literature. Areas of interest include cinema, television, and digital and visual culture. Candidates who can teach comparative courses on modern Spain and Latin America are particularly desirable, especially those whose work engages with questions of the global circulation of media. We also encourage applications from candidates who can offer electives connecting Spanish-language film, literature, and media to interdisciplinary areas such as environmental studies, health professions, or comparative cultural studies. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to program building and administration, curriculum design, undergraduate teaching, and an active, clearly defined research agenda. The course load is two advanced courses a semester, which include upper-level electives taught in Spanish or English. Candidates must have a PhD in Spanish, Latin American, Hispanic Studies, or a related field in hand or expected by the time of appointment (July 1, 2026). Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English is required. ABD candidates must provide a date for their dissertation defense. Any candidate with a defense date after July 1, 2026, would be appointed as an Instructor rather than a Visiting Assistant Professor. Salary range: $56,000-$66,000. The referenced pay range represents the full base pay range for this job. Individual salaries will be determined within the jobs salary range, based on market data, the individual's experience and expertise, and internal equity considerations. To apply, visit https://apply.interfolio.com/181863 and submit the following materials: CV, cover letter, as well as descriptions and tentative syllabi for two upper-level elective classes candidates propose to teach. We also ask applicants to submit two confidentialletters of recommendation. The cover letter should include the candidates vision of their potential contributions to the Spanish curriculum and a statement of research interests. In a separate document, please describe how you will add to the University's core values of Meliora (Ever better), discussing the ways in which your experiences will shape your pursuits as a member of our faculty (see Vision and Values statement here: https://www.rochester.edu/college/odos/meliora-vision-values/index.html). Application review will begin immediately following the March 15, 2026 deadline. Additional materials may be requested of the candidate, and finalists will be interviewed by Zoom. Please address questions pertaining to this search to Ryan Prendergast. Chair, Spanish Search Committee: ryan.prendergast@rochester.edu. The University of Rochester, an Equal Opportunity Employer, has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education. recblid j5lg620hqwl7efvmnqycpti1hf0mmr | |
