PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Quality Leader is responsible for ensuring our products meet our customers' exact requirements and that our processes are capable and consistent. The position also manages all plant quality systems, lab operations, and customer interaction with regard to quality.

Reports to: Site Technical Leader

Span of Control: All manufacturing processes and products of the Newark Plant, including Quality Lab operations and personnel.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living the Safety Stand and adhering to the employee safety responsibilities



  • Ensure a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and build a culture where safety is a priority
  • Ensure a clear and effective measurement system is followed and used to drive results; reward and celebrate safe behavior and achievements; ensure accountability
  • Ensure that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines are in place
  • Lead and support safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero safety incidents.



Driving Technical, Process and Quality Improvements



  • Owns all aspects of quality at the local level - Quality Lab operations, personnel, procedures, and asset management
  • Maintain ISO9001:2015 certification, ensure plant operations and process are compliant, and complete any corrective actions
  • Understand current manufacturing process capability, drive to reduce variation, and ensure product quality and consistency to improve the overall customer experience
  • Participate in and drive quality improvements through Daily Management Systems
  • Ensures nonconforming products are not shipped to our customers and contributes to root cause analysis.
  • Participate in leadership initiatives to improve the process & quality of the product, supporting the Technical Leader as necessary
  • Ensure Insulation Operations maintains process standards and leverages knowledge for rapid deployment of best practices
  • Act as primary plant contact between S&T & COE Quality Teams to develop and implement improvements and division initiatives across the Newark Plant
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are recorded, communicated and thoroughly investigated promptly addressed with customers, and eliminate repetitive complaints
  • Utilize problem-solving methodologies and work cross functionally to drive to the root cause
  • Promote a data-driven approach to all quality and process related problems
  • Ensure that all plant quality testing equipment is calibrated, and testing methods are followed
  • Facilitate quality related training to ensure understanding of customer requirements, process variables, SPC procedures and practices at all levels of the organization
  • Actively participate in the quality network and be a conduit for best practice sharing in the plant with respect to product quality and service
  • Actively driving to understand customer requirements with Product Technical Leads and the relationship to plant process variables to ensure products continuously meet the customer FFU



Lead Plant Quality Maintenance Pillar Activities



  • Serve as Leader of the Quality Maintenance Pillar and evolve Pillar Team and Plants capabilities
  • Utilize digital software and partner with other Technical Team members to monitor and predict product defects
  • Use various Total Productive Maintenance tools (QM Matrices/Kaizen, etc.) to drive improved quality performance and culture
  • Create visual management systems to error-proof the mfg process, quality checks, and processes for standard work



Knowing the business and our customers



  • Understand and communicate customer expectations to employees through effective use of product specifications, standard work, control plans, routine reporting, and quality alerts
  • Create an environment where all employees are engaged, empowered and focused on serving our customers
  • Develop and actively manage relationships with customers and understand what it takes to ensure OC manufactures products that they define as high quality, and participate in developing solutions for serving our customers
  • Ensure standard processes are defined and in place that consistently provide product meeting customer performance and FFU expectations
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to identify and address process improvement opportunities to eliminate waste, enhance safety, reduce cost, increase capacity and productivity and improve the product
  • Leader in additional TPM activities (AM teams, other Pillars) to drive plant to JIPM excellence and consistency awards



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Prefer Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Prefer Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) experience



EXPERIENCE:



  • Three years technical experience as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • Proven results in driving product and process improvement in the manufacturing environment



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Utilizing data systems and Six Sigma methods to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs
  • Minitab statistical analysis experience, or equivalent SPC software
  • Impactful verbal and written communications
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills
  • Ability to engage and care for others, starting with safety
  • Ability to achieve results quickly, both individually and through teams
  • Demonstrates and inspires company spirit
  • An inspirational leader
